Hi,
I have a VW Syncro diesel with a 1.9TD (AAZ) which previously mounted a 1.6TD (JX). Since the AAZ is mounted at 52 degrees you have to use the JX oil pan. The problem is that I don't know if the oil dipstick get correct measures. It has two new hand-made min-max marks that I supspect are wrong. They are 1cm appox up wrt the old ones. In the last oil fill, I put exatly 4.5 liters (I think this is the amount of oil for that engine) and I was surprised because the oil was in the middle of the OLD marks, so maybe I have been running with too much oil for a lot of time !!
Do you know the exact amount of oil that correspond to maximum and minimum levels for an AAZ and/or a JX ?
Thanks

A "normal" jetta 1.9 TD takes about 4.5L with a filter change. Minimum would be around 3.5L, max at 4.5L.

Thanks ! That confirms what I though. I have been running with too much oil for the last 20K Km. I put 4.5L without changing the filter and the oil is at the middle of the OLD marks. So I was using 1.5L approx. more ...

Nacho, you may be adding the correct amount based on the old engine's installation specs, but unless you swapped over the correct oil pump pick-up tube, you may need to rethink the amount of oil you add. For your engine's longevity, it is imperative that the pick-up suck oil and not air...
