Title: Getting Water Pump Off

I need to R&R the water pump on my '83 CAddy diesel.  It has AC as well. Anyway of getting that baby off without pulling the fuel pump, AC and alternator?  Oh please say 'yep'.

Nice try but no way sorry!

The alternator and A/C have to come off, as their mounting bracket is bolted on to the water pump. The fuel pump can stay on though.

Or you can do it the other way (which I never recommend but I've never dealt with AC)

You need to remove the timing belt though and you can take the pump off and leave the housing on. This method can be a real PITA though because the 10mm bolts that hold the pump to the housing tend to break off

... 4 hrs. and a bit of flesh left behind.. I am still fighting the AC bracket mounting bolts that go through the water pump housing.  I think they used some kind of sealant on the threads. It's a fight for every turn.  One is out, the other is staring at me.. saying...' hay buddy, just try and get me out. I dare you.'  Just trying to figure an approach with a breaker bar.

I hate this part of the game.

Try squirting it with something wet and slippery and tightening it back in and then back out....

if you're replacing the whole pump, unbolt the water pump from the housing and put some anti seize on the bolts.

One of the 13mms hides behind the injection pump and is a complete arse to deal with. Do yourself a favour and get a set of "bent", "obstruction", "standard Citroen Peugeot", spanners and it becomes doable. Good luck.
Try changing the thermostat before bolting the water pump onto the car, this saves on rolling the car onto its roof to stop the wretched thing falling out,  or use superglue! :D
