I've been through all the stickies on this & still can't figure it out.  I did the mod to the governor springs (shimmed the main spring & removed/shimmed the the intermediate spring) the other night & I'm still having a bit of trouble.  In order for it to return to idle @ higher rpm I've had to cut back on the fuel screw quite a bit.  Now it won't smoke & performance is back to where it was before the mod--i.e., no smoke.  

So what did I do wrong?  The splines & shaft are lined up the way they were, to the best of my knowledge & photos taken prior to disassembly.  Is there a way to double-check that the throttle shaft is oriented properly?  What else could it be?  It should be a beast now, but simply doesn't get enough juice to make much of a difference.

Do you have good healthy injectors? Worn ones usually cause that "hanging"

Of course it could be other things as well

Chances are "no."  It only has 170,000 on it but I'll have to pull them to check how hot & dirty they've gotten.

Do you have the proper pop tester or were you bringing them to a shop for testing?

Make sure to get new heat shields

One of my co-workers has access to a pop-tester.  It would be nice to be there to witness the (lack-of) even spray pattern.

I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do.  I had turned the fuel up a fair amount and it didn't hang.  Once I shimmed the gov. it started acting funny.  It will still hang slightly, but it doesn't make any more power or rev out more than before.  :?

I went over the "how-to"s again.  I'm thinking I reinstalled the cover plate incorrectly.  Instead of starting from the pulley-side and sliding over to line up the bolt holes I believe I started from the head-side and slid it toward the pulley.  This would affect the fueling, correct?

I'll take it off & try it the proper way.  :oops:

Okay, there is no way to slide from the pulley side on my pump.  Regardless, I took it apart & reinstalled everything again.  I believe that the slotted shaft was turned just enough to allow it to "float" up through the fueling lever.  Regardless, she runs much better now.  :)

dont bother with all that
every time id do that mod,it would do the  same thing(hang at hi rpms)
never found a fix for that and tried everything
theres more power in just turning up everything else

I just did the intermediate. To solve my hanging problem, I had to unscrew the residual fuel screw out. It solved the problem for me. I don't think I would touch the intermediate spring again, and would just do the main spring shim. In fact, one of these days, I'm going to replace the intermediate spring and do the main spring shim.

this is absolutly true, you only need to do the main spring, shimming the intermediate only give a agressive car but not a real power gain.
i put a spacer near the main spring from +-3mm

well i removed the intermediate spring and put a solid piece to take up the movement and put 1 shim in the main spring.
what would be the behavior of the car like this?

Removing the intermediate spring causes the engine speed to be slightly harder to control at low throttle as it is harder to maintain a specific rpm. Fuel starts to increase very quickly to a point. Unless maybe you race a lot, I see no real reason to do the intermediate mod.

weel, that was not my goal...i just want to remove rpm limit(or set at 6000rpm) but keep full fueling until very close of rpm cut...

lets see how it performs...
