Title: What kind of TDI and why don't start?
Post by: Prebus on November 26, 2015, 03:14:51 pm
Hello and thanks for a great forum.
First of all, I am newbie and my be my post is on wrong place. I am from Norway, and pardon my English.

I have a Swedish Iller TDI small groomer with a vw r5 tdi engine. The groomer is prodused in 2001, but I think it is the same engine back in production start in 1997. The only I id I could find is AHY but I cant find any spec on this on internet.

Question one: What kind of engine is it? It looks like it has a vacuum driven EGR valve. Looks really simple, but I se a "brain" clamped to the radiator  :o

Question 2: When is it below zero, it wouldn't start at all, when it is 0-5 degree's Celsius it start after crank a while. When i start troubleshoot, my first focus was glow plugs, they are all new and working. They also glow until they are very red. When I bridge over the 103 relay to glow long when starting, but it didn't start.
What could it be? Anything in vacuum system? injector nozzle? any idea? Is there hydraulic valve lifters?
I have also checked diesel system, filter and air.

Any idea?

re #2, how about the  fuel itself?  does it have adequate  anti freezing agents?

Hello.
The fuel is good, hold until -30 celsius and no water.

Tipper dieselpumpe timing. Disse motorene er utrolig følsomme på å få det riktig, må ha VCDS eller tilsvarende og justere mens motoren sviver for å få det riktig.
De fleste verksteder gjør ikke dette ved registerbytte. Selv merkeverksteder...

Translated: i guess pump timing. Those engines are difficult to get right, you basically need VCDS or similar, and adjust while the engine is idling. Most mecanics won't do this when swapping the t-belts. Even at the dealers...

Thanks. Last week with -7C it would not turn over, and i think it was the battery or starter, but it wasn't. Suddenly it started turning and lots of particles came out if pipe. Next days it start like a dream. Confused!
