Title: Reliability TDI in NewBettle?
Post by: Laurentian on February 21, 2005, 07:02:55 pm
How reliable are the newer TDI's? I can't stop looking at a little red '98 NewBettle for sale. It has 180,000 km's and could pick it up for maybe 6000 CDN.
I know one guy posted here recently that said he had major problems with that model.

www.tdiclub.com has lots of info.  I would be concerned about all the electronics in the newer cars.

I had a 1998 GLS TDI, and it cured be of Volkswagenitis for over 3 years. It was an electrical nightmare, and the engine grenaded at 120,000km (new one was over $10,000 installed). They are so tight, in the engine compartment, that even minor work is hundreds of dollars more than another body style.
In short, stay away from the dreaded beetle. IMHO
