Title: Modifying a 1.6 TD solid lifter block to a Hydraulic block
Post by: caddywompus on May 07, 2004, 07:01:28 am
Greetings folks,
I have been lurking on the GTD forum for sometime and finally I have a compelling question regarding my current TD project.  Is possible to modify the solid lifter block by machining the appropriate oil drain hole (this appears to be the only obvious difference) that the hydraulic block has.  I just want to make sure that there are not some other casting differences (like a slightly different water jacket) that would make this idea impossible.  Also, has anyone out there done this??

The problem is I only have a good hydraulic TD head and a solid lifter block.... If someone has a rebuildable TD solid lifter head out there I'm all ears....

Thanks,

Justin

Yep, it's true, there are turbo chargers whistling on every street corner of the land, each one bringing a smile to my face, and a strong envy to my brain.

I did sell one of my hydraulic heads on ebay, but I came into another one not too long ago.  The solid lifter head from that engine you bid on for me turned out not to be rebuildable due to a severe crack (this from the purported experts up at aluminum head rebuilders in Portland).

Anyhow, thanks for the thread link..... I will check that out momentarily.  When do you want to have that injector rebuilding party??

Justin

Heh... maybe you and dieseltech should arrange swapping each of your mismatched 1.6lTD heads... swap solid for hydro, so you each get the one you need, and make life easier for the both of you!   :P
