Title: Dealer coolant hose quality? Heat Exchanger specifically
Post by: wolf_walker on April 14, 2014, 10:25:37 pm
Anyone actually ordered factory from the dealer coolant hoses recently?  Are they CRP or some such "OEM" or
are they actually good German VW?  I'm looking specifically at the oil/coolant heat exchanger hoses.
Mk1 Autohaus has a silicone lower but not the upper apparently.

Side note, 037122058 or 068121053p?  Lotta plastic in that first one.
I'm an AAZ with a vertical lower inlet on the front side of the head so
I'll probly have to cut and splice anyway.

Thoughts?

Followup on this.  I wussed out between time and budget constraints on the silicone hoses.
I figure there are tons of TDI's running around with these hoses for years and years so they
can't be all bad.  The 028121053Q fit my AAZ with a bunch of 1.6D accessories on it and does
not need extending to reach the taller head which is nice.

The dealer hoses seem to be well made, are still labeled on the rubber VW Germany fwiw.
And yet AGAIN, were full of metal shavings.  This is the 3rd time from the 3rd different dealer on the
3rd different type of VW I have gotten hoses full of metal shavings.  So weird.  Luckily they were
dry so cleanup was easy.

Upper and lower rad hoses are NLA, I tried.  Gates still makes them looks like.

I used a 068121058C lower from CRP that is bonded/molded, no plastic.
I've reasonable faith in CRP still, and I can build a T pretty easily for it if need be later.

Onward, onward..
