Title: 020 transmission leaking after 5 years
Post by: srgtlord on September 07, 2015, 10:37:41 am
So I've noticed a few droplets on the driveway that have been consistently growing as of late. Based on the smell it's gear oil. I'm thinking one or both or both of the flanges is leaking but any advice on how to pinpoint which seal is leaking would be greatly appreciated.

I did get a chance to look. The whole bottom is covered in oil and grime.... I'm thinking I'll wash it off and try to see where it leaks

Ya, honestly....the old car-wash tx. and then drive it a bit. It also helps to find oil leaks by going under there in the absolute darkness of night and use a beam flashlight. That way, you only see what you are looking for. I do it all the time......seriously.

Slight output shaft seal leaks never disrupt my life. I just check the trans level rather frequently. And, yes, I have pretty nice concrete here at the place. Lucas did his best to get brake fluid all over it when he was here.........YUCK!
