Title: Rear only sway/anti-roll bar stability

 Just upgraded the MKII suspension with a Bilstein B-12 pro kit. Also added a rear sway bar (no front) because that's what I've seen on most track and autocross Golfs that I've come across. The car has great, neutral handling in the curves and pretty much no understeer now, but is decidedly more tail-happy when really pushed.
 Does anybody else here also run a rear only sway set up for street use? I'm just a little curious as to whether or not  the car will keep it's composure in a high-speed avoidance maneuver, but I'm far away from home and the car at the moment so can't go out and do any moose tests for awhile. :)

look on TDI site as they have a large post directed toward handling.  Rear sway bar is not recomended for the same reason you have mentioned.  They say most people will back off once the tail starts moving around and that may cause problems for you and anyone else driving your car; as it's suggested to not back off, to put foot down to correct an unstable tail with a rear sway bar.

Or you could just do it right and put a front sway bar on it.
