Title: New Seats for Caddy
Post by: rs899 on May 25, 2013, 07:38:05 am
It's time (past time, really) to do this.

What are some good candidates to cannibalize seats from?

Whats in there now are irreplacable!  When was the last time you saw a Renault Fuego in a boneyard?

I might even go for a bench seat this time.

Any ideas?

If you really like the current ones what is the cost to get them recovered?

Getting seats recovered is almost never worth the cost. I think it is usually $800+. Unless you plan to keep the car forever or just don't care about money.

You need to find a "reasonable" upholsterer.   Have them make the covers and you do the padding and the attaching.  It isn't that hard. Think of it like rolling up a sock and getting the tip on the toes nice and straight and just work it down the back from there.  Bottom parts are even easier as you have to start at the front and tighten them off in the back.

It certainly isn't hard to take off and put on the fabric. Or even replacing the foam yourself. But having someone make new jackets and covers.... that is never cheap.

That ain't gonna happen until the seats in SWMBO's 380SL get the royal treatment.

I am looking for known workable $20 junkyard seats.  I have a pair of Miata seats up in the rafters that should probably work, but I was saving them for the Spitfire.
