Title: Rear Discs brakes from a corrado onto an MKII?
Post by: Torchd on February 08, 2009, 10:53:13 am
Hey guys!

I have heard that the whole rear axle beam removed from a corrado can be fitted to an MKII golf with the disc brakes and every thing?

Is that true? What other parts would be required?

Thanks.

Get out yer tape measure to make sure the width and pivot points are the same. Take pictures of brake line routing to compare.
Other wise, you can just unbolt the pieces that hold the old stuff and bolt on the new parts. Doing the whole rear section would be the better way to go if everything matches up.

should fit, if the whole rear beam does not, then you can swap the discs to your beam, the stub axles will bolt up, just did that swap on my rabbit

I have a jetta III axle under my MKII jetta. Its about 3/4" wider at the flanges on each side. Every thing bolts up the same. My friend has a corrado axle under his MKII jetta. Fits just fine. Has a bigger sway bar built in to the beam. Do it!

Fox, do your rear tires stick out wider than normal then?

Yeah GTI cables will work. I had to use early MKII (85-87) jetta w/disc cables.

Yeah slightly. They still tuck under the wheel wells with the tall skinny tires i have now. Haven't tried any wider wheels. Also i have 1st gen passat control arms up front with MKIII 100mm cv axles. They stick out noticeably. Once again not much rubbing with my current tire setup. 185/70-14  Looks good though.

I'm a bit late here but Passat rears bolt right up to your mk2 axle.

Any passat will bolt on but some had 5 lug didn't they? That gets complicated cause then you have to do the front hubs.

Sorry I forgot to subscribe so I didn't see it was still an on going conversation.

The Passat I used was a mid 90's 4 lug.

All Passat rear disc's are the same I believe up until they switched to 5 lugs, then things got moved around a bit.

Hmm... Thanks zukgod. I will start looking for a passat rear axle, hopefully it should be easier to find!

There are usually a few Passats in our local yards. from what I remember there are a couple bolts that have a Allen head. kinda hrd to remove.

get the brakes, spindals, parking brake cables, and if you can the hard lines on the rear axles if not though yours will work.

Could be, could also be that just the bolt pattern where the brakes bolt to the axle are the same. the Passat is prob going to be wider that a jetta, GTI, Golf or Corrado?

The passat rear axle will be wider. Should be similar to the Jetta III rear axle. It will most likely have a torsion sway bar built in to the beam.

Any 4 lug rear disc brake set up will bolt in to your car.
