85 Jetta 1.6TD
The dipstick tube appears to have a grommet where it goes into the block. On mine it's deteriorated.
The dipstick itself is the wire type, the plastic clip on the handle has opened up and won't stay on the ridge of the plastic part at the top of the tube.
I have had no luck searching for either a complete replacement or just the grommet and dipstick.
The dipstick parts for the gas engines are everywhere, but they don't look anything like what I have.
Any part numbers or source is appreciated.
TIA

Will this one fit?

You might need to find a tube from MK1autohaus or other.

On mine one of the clips has broken off I use safety wire and hook it over to keep it from pushing up, Not sure if it really needs it as the dip stick only has to be seated when you are checking the oil.

I stopped my photobucket account years ago so no pics to post.
I was able to use a wire grommet and stainless washer to install the tube itself. The grommet acts like a double o-ring and fits nice and tight.
The dipstick I ordered was from partsplaceinc.com since the length matched mine:

So I think its done...
Now working on adding the thermostat oil sandwich and remote oil cooler.

It seems like I used a valve seal to seal where the tube enters the block.

Anyone who wants to check out my build, most mods are posted on the Suzuki Diesel Facebook page.
There are a lot of VW swaps in there and your expertise would be appreciated.

How about posting an article on this site?

SAY WHAT!?
I don't use facebook.
Now that just isn't right. I mean how can you be connected to any sort of social circle if You don't do FB?
Gee let me think back a few years ago. Did we need FB to communicate? NOPE, and when we did it was way more civil I am sure.
OK, your choice but you don't know the trash you are missing. Which is just fine.

Stop harassing me or I'll report you to the moderator, ha
Curious, Ohio what's your block code?
-
Suzuki Diesel facebook group is private. Too many hoops.

Unfortunately facebook groups do not have a very good index of anything. Its just a jumble of random posts and whatever the algorithms think will be popular. Unfortunately even the vwdiesel.net facebook group is a just a jumble of random interactions as well...

Lol...
My head is MF. Never looked for the block code.
I'm on Steel Soldiers website due to my owning a former military truck as well. I am able to upload pics from my phone there, no need for a 3rd party.
When I used to participate on the Tex it required a 3rd party and when I didn't keep up my Photobucket acct all those pics vanished.
The FJ Cruiser group, where i also used to be more active, could also upload pics from my PC or phone...
I wish you guys could update this platform :-(
At least the young'uns aren't on here being keyboard warriors from mommy's basement lol

I have always rented a web page. Since I am responsible for what is on the site I can put anything on it that i want.
Someone has to pay for the bandwidth.
I have not found any other site except for https://vwdiesel.cokenet.org/index.php?sid=0ac251fe16244148af4fd18e4a5de1f4 that has the depth of knowledge on olds cool vw diesels.
We live on a long narrow gravel road and suzuki or geo diesel suv would be cool.
