there is not a single north american diesel vw that would lose to any sort of rx7 that is in running condition.

what sort of declaration is that? I'm honestly confused.

You're going to tell me that every single North American diesel VW would win against any sort of running RX7?

I better take my 79 four door to the drag strip to take all the ricer's money away.

are they that slow???  does the 1.6 need to be tuned?

or... are you talking about when the rotary engine wears out and runs like complete crap? (at about 100,000kms)

Cool......so I can go race an RX-7 and win? I new a guy that put a RX-7 rotary in a vanagon and could easily do 100mph, bugged me that the vanagon started out as a 1.5D and he changed it. Much more power than a rabbit.

Wait....maybe he meant there's no RX-7 that would lose to a diesel. :!:

There is a guy at my university with a really hold rx something turbo and it flies.

but the new rx-7's look like they can barely hold 100km/hr

i don't think i said EVERY NA 1.6 can beat a rx7 i said we were already moving and his lane ended soon and he couldn't get past me don't think i said we drag raced and i smoke him lol

but we can all dream

rotary engines are junk after 100,000km anyways :P the tip of the rotary part wears out, then compression goes out the window

btw smokey thats a nice rx7... a real starving student right there!!!

That's not his car, thats a car i stole from google images
his looks a bit like that but its boxy, its an 80 something but he's definitely rebuilt it. My point was that those rx7's don't look slow (hence the sarcasm about not holding 100km/hr)

i meant to say "really old rx" but i typo'd "really hold rx"

having owned cars involed in the discussion as well as both n/a and turbo versions of both i can honestly say that there is absolutly no N/A 1.6d anywhere can take a stock rx-7.....

and i'd have to say that there are not many turbo 1.6s that can take a mild n/a rx7....

sorry guys.....i love diesels to......but lets get real.....

i know guys that have acheived 14.9 in the 1/4 mile in a n/a fc3s rx7 with just intake and a very nice header/exhaust......tstock engine....

i know that there are quick 1.6s out there...but most wont do it.....

and lets no even start about the turbo rotarys.....

and i have had 5 rx7s so far, love them all....smooth as whip cream....and they all had more then 150,000 k on them....2 went to 220,000 plus.... geting a beating all the time......

and the " rotary part" that wheres out is called a seal.....and when rebuilding you can purchase much stronger seal for heavy duty apps...

only 3 rotating parts FTW......look up what rotarys can do on youtube...

and you dont know until you own one.....

my old n/a 13b with mild street port.....200bhp...n/a

peripheral port rx3   300 bhp.....N/A!

if the rotary engines are so great i wonder why auto manufacturers haven't adopted them? (except mitsubishi...)

Actually, I thought it was "Apex seal" if you want to be technical
(and I usually do)

and all of your praises for engine design are a credit to German Engineering.

the proper name of the engine concept is the "Wankel Rotary" engine,
developed by a German for use in airplanes.

Being of German origin, I certainly respect the engine,
and there are a few distinct advantages over piston engines:
(Very few rotating parts, and not having to transfer the energy from linear to rotational, therefore most awesome power per displacement numbers from any engine mass manufacturered)

But there are also some negatives:
Apex seals are the weak link in the motor, regardless of what you say
No matter what you do, if you open up the exhaust, the engine sounds like CRAP
And no matter what, you are driving a japanese car.
I wont go off on the other tangent of why German cars are the best in the world,
but suffice it to say, the Japanese did what they always do: They are the world's best re-engineers.
But the Germans are still the world's best Engineers.

you oviously didnt see my sig, i prefer German cars by far...

i was neither saying that the rotary is the best in the world, and please dont start with why other manufactors havent adopted it....i think there are alot of technoligies in our day that are better but not being used.

i was just pionting out that our diesels are not faster and stop thinking they are.

i was also pionting out they are more reliable then you think

and of cousre the simplicity.......

im not here to start a war.....but to have facts out there.....

and i really dont why " the germans are the best" arguement had even been played here dude.....

thats one part of our VW/diesel community that i really dislike.....

here are the facts of this thread

will a diesel last longer? yes

is a diesel more reliable? yes

does a diesel get better fuel milage? yes

does a diesel sound better? thats up to personal tastes..my opinion NO

is a diesel faster? NO!

but they are the master race!!!

but seriously, what we say is that their engineering is the best.  aside from a few mishaps... but that is to be expected.

I agree that they are best engineers.....i own 3 german cars.....

but the thread isnt even about that......

See, isnt this nice. We have just had a nice international discussion.  Everyone gets to throw in there input.  Toe-may-toe / toe-mah-toe it's all the same.  I like this forum because members are able to talk about a subject with out getting nasty or flame wars starting.  Thats what seperates us from some of the "other" forums out there.  Of course there are no really good discussions unless there are different views on the subject matter.  Now shake hands, step back to your corners, no low blows, keep it clean and come out discussing.  :P
