Title: wtb: water neck off of cylinder head

Ive got a water neck (i think thats what its called?)off my 86 Jetta TD that the upper radiator hose and the bypass to waterpump hose attach to and the water neck is bolted to the cylinder head by 2 10mm bolts. i need a new one. Mine i found out is cracked. I thought the seal was going but found out why its leaking. If you have one for sale email me at [email protected] and let me know how much including shipping for it. They're pretty easy to get. I know personally of a junk yard here in Ontario that has about 6 of them (all attached to MKII Jettas). Probably also some in Golfs in the same yard with the same piece. And there's a place called "frisco" auto parts nearby that has maybe 20 or so old 1.8 and 1.6 diesel engines sitting in the back room, again all with those necks on them.

try and get the latter if you can.

Post by: srivett on December 13, 2004, 07:36:48 pm: Replace all of them at once or you'll just be wasting antifreeze in the long run. They only cost 15CDN each new at the dealer and you'll need 2 or 3 of them if your thermostat has a plastic one. Also buy new antifreeze, bolts, studs, nuts, washers, clamps and some sandpaper. This will run you about 60 bucks in total but it is well worth it as you're car will be that much more reliable. Get the parts guy to do a pressure test on your rad cap too. If it looks to be bad ask him to test the new one as well...it'll read the same as your old one if the tester is borken. :)

Post by: ejust on December 14, 2004, 03:26:59 am: here in NE Wisconsin, the junk yards are for total schnit when it comes to parts for VW's and Audi's. Its hard to find parts. Thats why im on the internet asking everyone in VW groups. I wouldnt think there expensive. Its just i have no availability to parts.

Post by: fspGTD on December 21, 2004, 12:21:00 pm: Sorry, no extra water neck here. I would recommend going to a wrecking yard for a replacement, or perhaps you can Marine-tex or JB-Weld your old cracked one.
