Hello All,
First post on here. I recently purchased the dieselcraft oil centrifuge for my Rabbit with a 1.5 D.
Now I did searches on these forums and came across one topic on this product however it became more of a rant on the efficacy/efficiency of the product. I'm not worried about that. The trigger has been pulled.
My question is how would you plumb it to the engine? I am already running a sandwich adapter to an external oil cooler. The requirements for the centrifuge are oil under pressure in. Passive return to the engine. The guy at dieselcraft said another customer recently put one on a newer Jetta and just tapped a return to the valve cover. But what about the inlet?
Any suggestions on where to pull oil under pressure to run the centrifuge?

Check the filter flange on your engine, many of them have an extra M10 hole that currently has a plug in it. If not, you could swap one in that does. You could possibly add a tee in front of the oil pressure switch but I have a feeling that would cause the oil pressure alarm to go off a bunch.
There's also a hole in the end of the head that you could use. Most of these cars came with a second oil pressure switch installed there but that one is only a 0.1 bar switch, it would probably work ok even with a tee as long as the centrifuge has SOME restriction on its inlet.

The oil filter flange sounds like the best option. Seems like oil pressure would be highest there. May also install a 36mms oil pump to boost pressure.
The manufacturer of the centrifuge had to change the jets out in it due to the fact I wasn't installing it in a Cummins 6BT.

I am FAIRLY sure any of the oil filter adapters on the 4-cylinder engines will swap over. If you find one off a 1.6TD or an early TDI (1Z / AHU) there will be a big port meant to supply the turbo which would be perfect for your needs, plus a couple additional ports you can use for oil pressure and even oil temperature readings if you want.
The bigger oil pump certainly wouldn't hurt given you'll be taking a turbo-sized volume of oil out of the system.

I am pretty sure the aaz, ahu, and 1z will not swap to the earlier 1.6. They have a bigger flange to mount to IIRC. The 1.5 and 1.6 filter flange should interchange. Again, this is from memory not for sure, but if I am remembering right then all the old 8v gasser flanges would fit the early diesel as well.

On these oil filter flanges, will someone tell me what size pipe thread the ports are tapped for? Looking to keep gathering parts before the flange arrives in the mail.

I thought it was that same size as the one on the head. 10mm with the metric pitch that is so close to the 1/8 in pipe fitting most just tape and tighten one in there.

12mm poses a problem as I was planning on using an AN fitting and they are pipe thread. On the conversion chart it jumps from 10mm (3/8") to 15mm (1/2").
Was going to replace the oil lines coming from my sandwich adapter to my external cooler while I was at it and discovered those hose barb ends are fine thread not pipe thread. It's always something.

The oil filter adapter I received in the mail has "77 Rabbit" written on it in paint pen. The oil outlet tapped in to the front of it is 1/8" NPT.

VW has never used 1/8 NPT on anything they built. However 1/8 NPT will thread in to an M10 hole as the thread pitch is virtually identical.

I thought it was odd that the 1/8" NPT threaded right in.
