Title: Clutch choice for modded 1.6td?
Post by: BellCityDubber on July 06, 2009, 12:11:58 pm
So I got my giles pump and now my clutch doesn't hold :)

So I'm currently looking at different opinions and options for clutches..

My one main concern is the pressure plate.  I know a 16v PP has more clamping force than an 8v, but do the diesels have more clamping force than the 16v? Or will I have to go for something like a clutchnet (lotsa people on here mentioned it before....)

Another area is the clutch disk, how much does a stock clutch hold?? would it be sufficient for a street/track driven modded TD??? I think I may what to stay with a sprung hub as this is a streetable car...

also, I know that the stock clutch is 200mm, and the 16v PP is 210mm, Will that still fit under the stock flywheel of an MF code TD w/ 4S code 020 Trans???

any insight is welcome

thanks

If you look on page 5 here of my thread there is a clutchnet piece for a 210mm flywheel. They make the same stuff for the smaller 1.6 flywheel. On clutchnet search in the 1.8 8valve stuff for your car pre 1992 and you should be able to find it. Here is page 5... http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=16572.60
