Title: New evap core, add compressor oil?
Post by: wolfsburged on June 18, 2010, 06:11:00 pm
Replacing heater box and evap core this weekend with brand new evap core. System is R12 but 100% empty. Looking to resurrect with R134a once done. Am I supposed to add some oil to the new evap core? If so, how much? Can't seem to find much of any info in the Bentley for AC.

fwiw, i've never heard of it being necessary to add oil to anything except the compressor on an overhaul. But not an a/c guru.

Try calling Tom vdubnluvn in Winston perhaps ?
Any papers come with the new evaporator ?

Not saying this is 'wrong' section to post this to, but it might grab more eyes in troubleshooting or general section. I'm sure you're anxious for more knowledgable input.  ;)

That is a thread that I saved for when I do this. I think you will need some kind of oil in it, but it all depends on which cooling agent you use. I think you are supposed vacuum it out and then add everything. Just like Mr.BVZepplin I am not an A/C guru, but I did stay at a holiday inn.
