Title: Will I mess my 1.6td up if I put on a 3g 130 amp alternator?
Post by: damac on December 03, 2014, 11:46:06 pm
I did this mod years ago on 6.9 ford diesel and converted the serp to the vbelt pullies on the truck and it worked out.

I don't have ac or power steering on my rabbit and was looking to upgrade over 90 amp purely for the stereo.

I am not smart enough to know if speed that they turn and size of vw's pulley vs. original design might play into anything or if the load might somehow mess with my engine and put too much stress on it?

It looks like I could make it work, seems like the cheapest and easiest route for me to upgrade.

It would work, and as a v belt I don't think you would have to worry about the crank nose as bad as a serp belt. You could get a 4 farad cap off ebay for around 30.00 shipped that will do tons for stereo performance. Or add an extra battery works as well if you don't want to do the alt mod.

The engine will be just fine power wise.  Crank nose issues are the only thing you'll really have to worry about, but generally speaking with V-belts that wasn't too much of an issue.

:oWhat Behemoth have you got for a stereo? That amp must be at least 300 watts RMS per channel if a 90 amp alternator is struggling, I would be scared to share the same car with it! ;D
