Title: Several Issues '89 NA
Post by: laser030 on March 28, 2005, 10:29:54 pm
Here is a brief history.
'89 Jetta NA 1.6L  333K
During any uphill driving the heat gets up, then even after the thermostat reads low if I return to idle it lopes at idle, and the alternator light blips on and off (very weak).  I have replaced the belt and it is taunt.   I have also noticed that the drivers side of the block is covered in fluid (can't tell if it is oil or grimy antifreeze).  Compression is still 420-425-420-415 (pass to drive) psi.   Could this be the head gasket or am I looking at the wrong place.

Also wondering if anyone has experience having an older diesel done at any Portland, OR area shops, I may need one.

-Thanks
Scott
