I'm actively soliciting ideas to build a 1.5L displacement (actually needs to be just under 1.5L) engine for a land speed racing application.
Ideas include having a crankshaft welded and ground to de-stroke a 1.9 down to 1.5.
Another idea might involve sleeving a block, or building a bad-ass 1.4L 3 cylinder.
Let's hear some ideas, please.

If you have the ability to travel abroad seek out the 3 cylinder tdi polo engines. Disassemble the block and ship the motor in pieces. You can declare the import as "car parts"

That's true - I could get my hands on a 1.4L 3 cylinder. That being said, I haven't seen many (if any) 1.4's over 200HP.

You wanted something to do. So start building that 200 HP 1.4 and see what comes of it.

I'm afraid that what may come of it would be a pile of broken parts, and no new records.

hey you tried that with an old 1.5(iirc) and franken set-up, how long did the clutch last? and the motor did it last one season, to the next race or something. and kind of expensive. lots of ponies for a 3cyl. one thing it has going for it, in this respect, its a newer design. one thing i bet you can break a/the record, depending, as far as keeping it going(??)
