NLS has one for sale on whoretex... its a high floor though with dasher rear suspention... this has caddy rear and lower floor.. like 6-12" differance.. so far i gots 3k in it with picking up, fuel/tolls/dolly/title/tax and historical plates.. now i ust gotta build it..

right now trying to figure out best way to bring it down to the ground.. still waiting on tdi rebuild parts..

thinking i need to buy a new steel tube and build a new rear axel with drop plates built in so i can run a 15x6 wheel with no issues... thinking 15x7 will not fit.. and think drop plates will make 15x6 not work too.. web page has huge pics with measurements on what i have to play with..

your blue/gray mk1.. what grille setup is that? Aero for mk1 out of europe?
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on May 17, 2011, 02:42:51 pm
yep euro mk1 jetta.. have had them since 94.. they belong in the red one.. but since its been sitting from 05.. gas costs too much.. i used them in the blue/grey one..

blue/grey one is for sale.. :D with na headlights.. basic black seats, stock steering wheel and clock instrument cluster.. has recaros and stuff in it at the moment.. but they for the wagon and stuff..
Title: Re: Burnt Toast

so updates...

finally figured out how to bring it to earth...

the rear has been a issue.. only so much room for the quarter panels to wheel/tire area.. 1/2" room with a 13x4.5 et -45 wheel.. so how to drop..

i own a set of porsche phone dials 15x7 that i use on my b3 1.6td wagon.. if i redrill the rear 200mm drums on this to 5x130 i can use the drop plates and be about 3mm shy of the quarterpanel.. 3mm may not be much.. but it seems to be my best option.. so 3" drop commin..

i got my h4s for it.. i picked up my boost/pyro/amp gauges today.. modded a passat speedo cable to work on my speedo.. pillidged volt/op/oil temp/water temp/tach/ fuel and clock.. built the instrument panel up.. :D

figured out how to mount my recaro's in it.. :D

mounted a clutch pedal.. figured out where im putting a clutch master..

once i get some "built" pics ill get some pics up.. but it is in apart phase of test fit so on..

You should insulate the interior, it won't heat up as bad, and it will be warmer in the winter. It will also be quieter. If it was mine I'd put a bed in the back for those long trips and bush parties if you know what I mean......

http://www.crsmp5.com/burnt_toast/5_25_11.htm

todays work... :P took some pics for the divemasters guy.. aka floor area/ rear suspention set up..

also built the bracket for the clutch master and pedal affixment..

dont pick too much on my welding.. still learing how to do things with the new tig... outside good... interior corners suck..

i plan to dynomat it.. also plan to set it up where 2 hammocs can be hung for my 2-3 week out west and back on 90 gal of bio at the end of summer..

the roof is already insulated... and at some point i will add ac to it.. just not this season..

updates...

26th

i did front wheel bearings, clearanced stuff for 100mm axels, cleaned all the paint off the g60 brake adapters.. ball joint on left side, still waiting on the new right tie rod for left side so its adjustable, installed the porsche adapters, installed a set of dummy (aka old broken cv joint) stub axles..

started into the wiring..

27th
rear brakes, new bearings, so on... remove all paint from the 3" drop plates.. clean all rust off the rear axle and stubs so it all goes together with no possibility of things commin loose..

created a handbrake set up.. using the stock handbrake lever on the steering column.. its pretty tits.. can adjust it for more/less parking brake..

mounted some fogs..

rebuilt the tail lights.. siliconed them up so they will not leak.. also siliconed the windshield..

blead brakes with a flush..

painted the grill and front bumper..

the 28th is a day of wiring.. yea fun.. but till engine rebuild parts show up its what i got to play with..

ill get some pics of it on the ground tomarrow.. its so much better looking with the drop.... wonder how much lower the front will be once there is a engine in it..
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on May 29, 2011, 02:20:47 am
well after a day of wiring... every thing works..

see step 1.. cut a piece of a ce2 harness up to build a 10 wire harness for...
water temp
oil temp
oil pressure
tach
alt light
starter
washer pump
fuel pump
fuel gauge
and something else.. too lazy to get piece of paper..

run fog light activator wire

fix headlight, parking light, turns, 3 main power leads into original harness..
then relay the headlghts/fogs.. hook up hid conversion for the h4s

fix ground on the x-relay.. aka blower/wipers
eliminate bad reostate on interior dash lights.. wired into parking..
had rebuilt tail lights.. had to hook them up along with new licence led lamp
change dome light toggle to light up one
install 2 led lights to shone down on dash

install cut off switch for the 2nd batt im adding for camping purposes.. will reside between door and pass seat

run 8 gauge wire for amp gauge to alt, to power hook up, and to cut off switch..

but i can say this.. with no engine in it every thing else powers up..

bumpers installed too

tried to take some photos.. but they crappy.. need to move it outside..

waiting on engine rebuild stuff now...

doing the drop as you want it could also be attained by going with a very low profile tire. IMO a small drop would work better, as it is already a pretty cool looking ride and the ride will still be reasonable. I'd try making the van handle better, and have more creature comforts.
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on May 30, 2011, 10:53:15 pm
the 195/50 i put on it is as low profile as i want.. too many pot holes for less.. but your right.. stock tires that came on it are much bigger.. a good 1-2" drop on that alone.. at this point ive dropped it 4-5" and trust me.. it looks it.. im now taller.. :P
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on June 02, 2011, 12:44:38 am
today was fun....

got my tdi-m rebuild stuff int he mail.. so stripped down the engine.. cleaned.. painted..

stopped by my insurance agent.. time to pay type of thing and add this to my policy... progressive SUX.. they feel i should have commercial insurance on this..

so i told my agent if i am getting a 2nd policy.. i want collectors with stated value of $10k.. since i have 6k tied in it with parts and ***.. i feel my time is worth 4k.. supposed to call me back tomarrow..

hope to have the bottom end built this week, (waiting on my rings).. do the valve job next week.. gotta use my fathers facility to do that.. so his timming said next week.. but once bottom end together i can build the engine mounts.. want to do mk3 style vs mk1 so when i add ac to it it does not vibrate the box to death..

sounds like a great project. And man are you working fast on it. Can't wait to see it done. It would be cool if you painted it up to look like the mystery machine or put a wizard like merlin on the sides :D

fyi.. every time i put pic on post.. there is a slew of pics on the webpages.. cause i put up such big photos..

perty.. textured with copper flakes..

got insurance.. collector car.. 135/year.. 10k stated value... unlimited miles.. screw progressive..

just waiting on rings now.. backorder sux..

no ill add all kinds of vinyl stickers to it this year... still searching for a brass pole for it though... then i need need to find some midget strippers...
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on June 06, 2011, 05:33:08 pm
well since i am still waiting on rings.. backorder situation.. i went into doing other things that skipped my brain..

horn.. now has one and works..
washer bottle.. now has one and works..
rear spotlight.. stock back up lights are a joke.. relayed and all.. all i need to do is wire in the switch on tranny to complete the ground..
circuit to kill lights/radio when key is pulled..

radio??? ohhh yea added one of them with sub (1st one ever) amp and speakers... sounds pretty freeken good.. location of sub box makes seats bump nice too..

ill give 1 more week on rings.. then ill be forced to put it together with idea ill do rings this winter.. need to get it rollin for mk1 madness and really want 2-3 weeks for local before road trip..
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on June 10, 2011, 12:37:39 am
well lets see... what has i been up too..

got 3 pistons installed.. 4th one is a major issue.. got 4 sets of rings.. only 3 are for tdi.. so lets just say waiting on the proper set to show up.. someone goofed and sent me some type 2 ones.. there is a 6 in the part number that ws supposed to be a 3..

installed 2 more power lighters.. 1 is never enough.. 3 should do..

installed a oscillating fan on the dash... just incase i stumble across a parking lot (traffic jam) and need to feel a breeze..

installed batt #2.. yes duel batts.. set up so both can be charged.. but power to 2nd one killed for when camping and dont wanna kill the main batt..

the 2nd one is beside the pass seat.. so easy access for a power converter and such.. :D

installed the clutch master bottle... gotta love mitsu.. hardest part to find.. will take a turkey baster to fill i tup.. but so be it.. now just need to attach the lines..

governer mod on rover pump done.. :D some pics... built a glove box too..

well i am planning out my 2-3 week vacation.. knowing places i wanna go and see... so i sat down and spent some time on mapquest..

when... looks like Aug 17th thru sept 7th so 9 weeks 3 days..

places i must visit...

yellowstone..

wchlvr, crunchy and a few other f3 monday night players.. need to arrange a gtg with the group..

seattle

san frasico.. need pic of toaster meeting golden gate

need pic of toaster at beverly hills sign...

la.. need pic of hollywood sign..

grancanyon

strokers in dallas tx

my passenger is looking for some filler want to see places along the way..

but in rough form.. looks like 7000+ miles.. 21 days.. leving on a wed.. commin back on wed.. so all 3 weekends can be somewhere fun..

now i am leving from 44505.. trying to avoid all toll roads..

plan to camp most of the trip in the toaster.. but members are allowed to offer up some accomedations for a ride in it..

also looking for suggestions on crap i should visit..

one place i want to check out.. but cannot rember for the life of me is the "forest of street signs" aka bunches of stolen street signs in a field somewhere.. anyone got a clue where that is? saw it on some tv show but not a clue which one..

also a place for cheap bio fuel in the PNW  would be swell.. planning to carry 100 gal (have 90 gal of oil i need to convert in the next couple of weeks) of fuel (building 90 gal tank in it) on my jorney.. but a place to top off with say 50 gal or so would be nice..

the fun has began....

tomarrow will be most interesting... adding in mk3 style mounts to this... if you look at the back tranny mount you will see its sitting on wood.. :D

sat my pump pully should be in my hands.. custom jobby... made up like a adjustable cam gear for a gasser.. the rover pump is like a mk4 where it does not move.. and finding mk4 pully is diffucult so decided on a easy way to get adjustment :D

well my fathers day wish got squished... no rad today ;(

but if things keep rolling along should be able to fire it up sunday.. wanted to drive it though :(

need to mount up the shifter inside... run some 6mm brake line from my clutch master to the clutch slave line.. yep its perfect adapter/coupler and fitting.. :D i expected that... just till this moment was unconfirmed..

got the mk3 style mounts fitted up and installed..

added a lower in teh way bar.. motor mounts will also mount to it for a little extra..

made up my 2.5" stainless down pipe with v band for the flex.. still seeking place to buy some bulk stainless pipe.. just not found it yet local.. i can buy online i know.. but they sell 4' lengths and i really need some 5 foot ones..

tomarrow finish up installing the rover pump..

need to make a trip to summit racing sunday for some odds/ends.. boost controller and such..

How are you going to do the timing belt? It looks hairy in there. I love this and would definately have one if I saw one around.

rember this had a 1.6 idi in it with mk1 engine mounts... so with mk3 mounts aka missing one by belt.. much easier..

is the serp belt tensioner.. it hangs below the "frame rail" too.. so reality is belt simple vs mk2-3 and vs a mk1 no mount.. and vs a mk4 no mount to really be in the way..

sadly no pump pully yet... but its being designed much like a gasser adjustable came gear for me to set the pump timing..

at least m in ohio.. so to visit it easy for you... ror will have to wait till im in orgeon between aug 17th and sept 7th to see it.. that on pg2..

one thing abt my sickness... ill go all out to make something the way i want it... may take a while to be "pretty" but it will function...

ill have more pics tonight... clutch functions.. shifter mounted... sub mounted.. hood latching mech built... you will love this...

it runs...

pump timming 118

things to do..

finish intercooler piping..

install rad.. wire in fan..

replace alt as it no charge..

change gear oil... finish the motor mount brace to the in the way bar..

i expect to be taking it for a spin tomarrow after noon..

then ill get some pics up..
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on June 23, 2011, 01:20:47 am
i lied no pics... also no under hood shots till sat.. not happy with my 1 intercooler pipe..ran out of material.. will pick more up fri.. so cobbled together 1 pipe from old tdi stuff for now...

well i just took mine for a spin... 50 miles give or take.. night time...

highest egt i saw was 1250... that was at 18psi.. got a regulator to pop the wastegate.. sadly tach way off with the non ac set up serp belt.. tach was pegged at 6k.. speedo is a good 15mph off.. so was pegged at 85... not a clue to how fast i was going.. :D

thats stock settings on the rover pump timed to 118 with a gov mod of 4 washers.. and idle screw backed all the way down..

not positive what nozzles are in it.. i need to ask myke what he hooked me up with..

not blowing coal..

for not having to dick with fuel mixture or anything i am very happy with the rover pump.. i will dick with that once i get 500 miles on it.. but for now.. it cruises at no more then 850 egt..

just wish i could have found a older td turbo set up for it.. ill keep on that search for next summer..
Title: Re: Burnt Toast
Post by: CRSMP5 on June 23, 2011, 11:54:40 pm
well ive run it 250 miles now.. :D at 222 i filled it up with a tad more then 4.5 gal of fuel.. via math... 50.666667 mpg..

and ill be honest.. figured out today with traffic that the speedo is dead nuts.. cannot beleive at 28psi that it will pull 85mph in 3rd..

so if thats what im getting before i touch mixture or any more timming from my inital 118mm i think ive found a winner... wonder how much more it will go up once it is fully broke in..

44505... come visit.. :)

need a #4 injector line.. sprung a drizzle leak.. so not long before miss leak.. hard to beleive it pulls 85 in 3rd..

anyone wanna tell me the rpm?? 195/50-15.. the 98 jetta tdi tranny.. else point me to one of those places with gear ratios so i can figure it out.. will not pull much past that.. but IMO diesel.. 85 and 3rd.. that is like a unicorn.. does not exist..

you want to own one??? 2700 5 speed 1.6idi in pa... spelled cubvan... craigslist... could post his number.. but then the others who want it will get major fight over it.. the key to it all is the misspelling.. so owner has no clue to its value..

its a 84 and with 5 speed means high floor aka dasher rear suspention..

well when im in orgeon between aug 17th and sept 7th you will have to ride in mine.. :D

from stock.. its so much more fun..  ;D took quite a few up 7am go into garage then.. goto work then come home and spend till 2am in garage... but 6 weeks.. 1 week of that was waiting on rings.. all my dead mommy insurance $ (was not alot.. but enough to pull this out my arss) i can say i gots something different.. and will be able to do a road trip cross country in a style she would approve..

how to fix rusty injector lines 101...

cut up old 1.6 idi line.. rebend.. cut rusty section off tdi line.. use a tig welder to melt the 2 pieces together... holding up so far.. but will still seek a good non rusty set as if 1 fails.. the rest on their way too.. stealership = $105/line...

Post us up some pics with the three sisters in the background or Mt Bachlor.  POR is five hours out.  It may be close enough for him to drive it just to see it.

You need the Pacific Ocean backdrop pic for the album as well.  Overlooks all up and down the coast.  You will be amazed.  Do it.  Headed to the coast myself this weekend.  Have to make sure I have the parka handy for the fireworks display in the fog.  Now that's different too.  ooooohhh ahhhh what the heck was that one anyway?

cut up old 1.6 idi line.. rebend.. cut rusty section off tdi line.. use a tig welder to melt the 2 pieces together... holding up so far.. but will still seek a good non rusty set as if 1 fails.. the rest on their way too.. stealership = $105/line...

I was able to track them down to $75 a line at my dealership and I bet 1stvwparts.com can get them cheaper. two years ago when I did a swap for a friend I ran to an issue of a leaky injector line that wouldn't stop leaking no matter how tight it was and we were under a time crunch so we bought new.

44505... come visit.. :)

need a #4 injector line.. sprung a drizzle leak.. so not long before miss leak.. hard to beleive it pulls 85 in 3rd..

anyone wanna tell me the rpm?? 195/50-15.. the 98 jetta tdi tranny.. else point me to one of those places with gear ratios so i can figure it out.. will not pull much past that.. but IMO diesel..

Here's the one I always use.

a line up of V-dubs at the beach for a photo would be nice.. they did something similar for the crosshaul cruise, but i bet not one of the cars in the pic was a diesel..

i have the EXACT same wheel, just in better shape, and you are right, there is nothing like a MOMO... and recaros! (these 2 items should have came as an option directly from VW) the sport comfort package..

(i was jealous of your recaros, so i went and pulled mine the other day, gave them a tune up, and dropped them in my GTI)

it kinda makes sense now, as to why my back was messed up for a month..

Pretty darn good. I would feel safe having you work on anything for me. I really liked the tig welded injection line and cup holder. The possiblities are endless with that box.
I think you have done a great job and hope to see the oops truck someday as well. Good luck sealing that window.

the guy who told me of show..never showed up.. wants me to goto tdi fest now... LOL.. first off they want 25-35/car depending on when you register.. then 15/extra passenger.. to "help fund the forum for another year" that right there pisses me off.. but the $100/night accomidations.. that really sux..

first off most a forum takes to operate a year is max 1k.. more like 200 for server/photos and with bandwidth.. to me its the big boys trying to fund there "personal" bills for another year at that cost..

the columbus show really pissed me off.. first off they did not wanna let me into the show.. feeling i did not have a vw.. built by grumman for vw to sell thru their stealerships.. just do not get it.. for as many people who photoed it.. for as many groups spent time fondling it.. so on... nothing.. like any vote for me was thrown away since it was not a "vw"....  hint will not go back.. the targa top truck got 1st by the way.. then 2 cabby for 2nd and 3rd.. how.. i know i had more molest mine.. you saw what was there.. id have been more thenhappy to loose to the vr6 caddy.. or the overspent yellow bunny.. but for the 3 that won.. something goofy..

i did enjoy meeting ya.. happy you liked it.. i was happy those who saw it and asked bout it got to enjoy it (most thought i conveted a rwd postal truck).. did meet a guy who owned 2 of them.. sold them and he now kicking self as he wished he had 1 back.. sold them right before fuel prices went up.. they were high floors.. i asked if new owners still had or wanted to sell for you.. no luck..

before the show i went to a camera shop for my friend.. like his fav thing to do.. the owner has seen pics of the toaster and oops.. well now he wants one for his 100mile a day rd trip to and from work.. :D

so my tally on kubvans stil in existance.. not on the diver websight.. they got 60.. ones not listed there..

mine..
oops..
weeds
polished..
local red one, still not called me in over a year due to lack of funds to make a 5 speed..
3 in cali.. 2 being kurbwatts
the ftd one, friend of guy with 4 posts..
the tdi one from last summer, that someone owns.. not made contact with them yet..
another one off whoretex.. guy has 4 posts.. but i got his #
2 guy sold in columbus..

so thats 13... and 2 more low floor ford temp powered ones i go see fri.. :D he wants one converted into diesel.. they were stock factory made tempo ones too.. 17mpg makes him mad..

thats 75 kubvans... known to still be around ones.. i do know of a field of 5-10 in pa.. not been there since 97.. with no vin #s.. and ben where i got mine from knows of 10 field ones too.. so almost 90 of them at worst case..

i think i need a winnin lotto ticket to get the fields of dreams and build them.. seems to be a large enough interest in such things... sadly those owners are anal.. dont wanna give them up :(

Yeah I though your cubvan and my buddy Troys rabbit and the VR6 caddy were the most well done. As far as not being bought and actually put together. Definately liked your ride. I probably won't go back either. They were friendly to watercools but definately show cased the air cooleds.
