I've got a couple Jetta's that I'd like to pull the CR TDI's from, convert them to mTDI's with all mechanical control for the turbos. Has anyone done this yet?
-
I do not think that anyone has done an mTDI CR yet. I've considered it. It would require a fair amount of custom work but I believe would actually be doable. The way I would do it is use the ALH accessory bracket, use a custom intake manifold, and make whatever adapters were necessary to fit fully mechanical injectors.

I have two of these, one running, one is not (pulled from a wreck). I don't have a problem pulliing together the parts to test out fitments, etc. Let me get the ugly one on a stand first and start getting some meaningfull measurements, pics, videos put together.
- Would not one of the pumps for a 1.9 work, with some larger injectors?
- Can I control how rich/lean the mixture runs via cable/lever? (Like aviation mixtures) I hit lots of mountains (Is it even necessary?)
-
If the ALH bracket will bolt up (and it looks like it will) then getting a pump that would work well is quite easy. The AAZ pumps would not be a good choice. There are others that would be much better, e.g. Land Rover 300TDI, LT28, Cummins 4BTA, etc... Injectors that fit and work is a much larger hurdle.

...and the injection pump IS the mixture control. Thinking of it as rich/lean on a diesel is not really helpful, though, IMO.
