Title: FS MK2 CE1 Cluster with Tach
Post by: burn_your_money on May 10, 2016, 06:56:47 pm
Unfortunately I don't have a vehicle to test this is so it's sold as it. Physically it looks to be in good shape.

It is in KM/H but that's fairly easy to swap over to MPH

Hello,

I would be interested in the tach from your instrument cluster. Do you know if it would fit in my Diesel vanagon cluster? What is the diameter of the tach face? Would you happen to know if the temp gauge and fuel gauge are wired the same in the Mk2 and the vanagon? Also, the tach is from a diesel so does it get it's signal from the W terminal on the alternator?

Thanks, David

Unfortunately I have no knowledge of Vanagons. I think you are correct though from what I've read. I can measure the tach face and let you know. The tach is driven by the W terminal.

The tach itself will bolt right into a gas vanagon tach cluster and be basically 100% plug and play.  The golf/jetta tach backing plate is different from the vanagon, though, so if converting from a clock to tach it requires a fair amount more work.  For mounting, you need to either source a vanagon tach backing plate or modify the golf/jetta one.  Either way can work and I've done both.  The vanagon clock cluster has the fuel and temp gauges at 6:00 and 12:00 so rewiring of the foil is required in order to run jumpers to the new locations.  W-terminal on the alt is required, but adding one if the alt doesn't already have one is quite doable.

Tyler,

I sent you a message through this site. Is that PMing you? I'm still not to savvy on these forums. I think I would like to buy your cluster. Did you get a measurement on the tach face yet?

You can email me directly at t e l e d a v i d  at gmail dot com.

Thanks, David

Here's a pic of a spare vanagon cluster I have that which originally had a clock (you can tell because the hole for the clock adjust knob is in the middle).  In that clock cluster I am holding the same model tachometer (and temp/fuel gauges) that is in the cluster Burn is selling.
