Title: SW Ontario GTG??
Post by: VW Scully on August 15, 2005, 08:50:34 pm
Hey;
When are we actually going to have a SW ON Diesel GTG? Summer is quickly passing us by :(
My BioDiesel processor is almost done and I got some work to do on the Rabbit.
Who's up for a GTG soon??? :D

anyone have a place we can all meet up?

i'd host a small one again but my backyard fixup project is mid-swing.

there is a little diner i've passed a bunch of times... i think it was called 'Diesel Diner' or 'Diesel Cafe'. might be a cool place to meet up and get a group shot of the old diesels, but other than that, i've got nothing.

Thanks Rob;
I was just about to come here and put up the link  8)

How are things? I'm brewing up my first big batch of BioDiesel in the new Appleseed Processor this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes :). The test batch with the waste veggie oil turned out awesome! :D

Title: BioDiesel processor and GTG
Post by: VW Scully on September 10, 2005, 08:25:47 pm
Hey Rob;
Hope you can make it next weekend; I plan to attend, but can only stay til about lunchtime, since I'm heading off to a VW Campout near Hamilton afterwards.
Anyway, I finished my BioDiesel processor and made 20 litres today! I'm draining it tomorrow so I'll let you know how it went! :eek: (hopefully good ;)).

At any rate, if it doesn't suck and I get the hang of this unit, I will have a BioDiesel GTG soon.
See ya!

p.s. you can see some pics of the contraption here ;)

Love to have a look at your processor Scully! Thinking hard about doing the bio thing. There's 5 diesels here, two jettas that run about 40,000 km each a year, my truck, tractor and road grader (snow shovel! :lol: ) Let me know how it works out.
Are you washing the fuel, or using a bubbler? What was your base oil?

I hope to make it to the gtg, look fwd to talking to you again :)
Count me in if/when you have a gtg also!

I was on vacation this past week getting g/f moved in, so now I'm back at work to catch up on rest :shock:
If I can get enough done by Sat I'll be there.
Of course, exhaust just fell off car too, add that to the 'To Do' list... :roll:

Edit: The gentleman in the 5th pic appears interested in more than one kind of brew...those gloves should protect him from the frosty bottle :P

Might be in town saturday, I think I'll slip by to have a look if I get a chance.  I could give everyone a good laugh and bring my truck........

With the current price of fuel, no one would be laughing, it'd be a real conversation piece! 8)

When telling people about it, say something like "Fuel milage? Nah, not very good. Only about 29(?)mpg."
Then look really sad.
Anyone that drives a fullsize gasser will get a funny look on their face, go to say something, stop, and walk away :P

Nah, everyone that drives a full size gasser gets 30mpg these days. No one likes to admit they made a poor choice... I used to get that alot when I drove my lincoln diesel. I used to tell people it got an honest 30mpg, (it did), they would usually reply with something like "my 302 ford 3/4 ton 4WD gets that". Well of course it does... :D

I'ts a 3/4 ton four door, and gets about 29.5 empty and babied,can't get past about 19 pulling my horse trailer (31' gooseneck, 4 horse with a big change room)
Truck only got about 12 tops (empty) when I bought it, throttle body 350.

That "gentleman" is my Dad :D and he can't work without one of those ;) hee hee don't you know you NEED to have that when you're making BioDiesel anyway; prevents methanol poisoning ;)

btw, my Dad is responsible for building most of the processor; I just buy the stuff and hand him the tools :D.

sorry I couldn't make it, got tied up in the morning and didn't get to the west end of the city until about 2:30. Had prior commitments for the rest of the day with the inlaws. Fatherinlaw always has a brew or two in the fridge though, so the day wasn't a total loss! :lol:

The thought had crossed my mind. I don't have much in the way of working facilities at the moment but I have lots of parking and lawn. I'll keep everyone posted...

I'm thrilled with Andy's ride, exactly as I imagined. It has adequate power :twisted: . Hope some of you guys also got a ride, it really should be experienced. Now to build my own...

BTW, Andy and Lanny, I had one for each of you at the wedding.  :D

Oh and Andy, I hope the new welding held for your trip home! :wink:

Were any of you guys filling up at the sunoco on the corner of wellington and exeter road about 7:00? (pm)  Saw a couple of very tidy Passat wagons while I was there, as well as a couple of other Vdubs. I was in the rusty Mk2 Jetta.....

Well, that was fun!  8)  Short but sweet and I actually got some work done ;). Thanks BlackTieTD for the use of your tools and nice to meet another Rabbit driver! (even if you have a Turbo Jetta engine in there ;)).

Sorry I had to take off to the Bus CampOut but that was a blast too (we had 12 Buses and a good time with more VW folks :)).

Anyway, gotta make more BioDiesel. See you all again sometime!
