Title: WTB power steering bracket & pulleys
Post by: MarkMac on December 15, 2018, 04:39:08 pm
Swapping a AAZ into an old Willy's. The engine I have has A/C. I understand there is a PS and Alternator setup that uses a V belt. Would be interested in the parts required to convert.

There are two generations I’m aware of that have what you need. Do you have a compressor you’re married to?

I have an AC setup that was removed from from a 91 Jetta 1.6 turbo diesel with factory AC that utilized Vee belts, and a Sanden 5 piston compressor. I think I have a York setup from a Quantum too, but I can’t guarantee I have all of the parts.

Would that be the same as the ones on the MK2s?
I believe there was a small pully stuck to the waterpump pully, the belt went from crank to power steering then waterpump.
Do you have the crank pully setup for 2 v-belts?

The setup I have was bone stock MK2. IRC the crank drove the water pump, AC and alternator, the water pump drove the power steering.  It’s been a minute since I’ve pulled it all off, I’ll need to think about it again later and get pics of another car with the identical setup.

I am not married to a compressor, I want to eliminate the AC. If you have a v belt solution, that would be great. Let me know, thanks.

The MK2 AC delete is pretty easy,.. using the stock bracket, alternator and even the same AC belt.
 It's around here somewhere.

I'm pretty sure the power steering ran off a second, smaller diameter pully.
Both pullys cast into the stock harmonic balancer.

I'm also pretty sure I have all the brackets and pullys.
All except the harmonic balancer pullys which I won't part with because I need them for non-power steering cars.

It'll be a week, but I'll take a look in the pully pile and the bracket bucket,.. and get some pics.

Hey I found them.

That little pully goes on top of the water pump pully.
I know you don't want the pump. Might even be easier to see the rest of the brackets if it wasn't in the picture.

Only a few bolts and a crank pully left to make it complete.

Glad you found em.  And it looks like it goes well with crackers, grapes and MMMMMMM BACON!

Ah, you caught my subliminal sales trick. ;D
Put a picture of bacon in the background, ha.
Some cool whip and chicken in a biskit doesn't hurt either.

That's funny, I hadn't noticed I did that,... but will continue to do it from now on because that bracket looks delicious and the pully looks hot.
