Title: FS: FF transmission---SOLD
Post by: theman53 on June 27, 2012, 10:53:56 am
I have an FF trans for sale. It has the following ratios: Ring and pinion, 1,2,3,4,5

3.89 3.45 1.94 1.29 0.91 0.71

I haven't ran this trans personally but it was ran by the shop I bought it from and presumed good. This should be before the softer ring gear rivots.
Main selling point is that it has the .71 5th gear everyone wants that sells for around 135.00 just for the gear on the vortex. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5720648-FS-.71-Fifth-from-020&highlight=020+.71

200.00 plus shipping if you don't come and get it.

Please buy this as daddy needs a new set of pistons and you can help LOL.

I could actually meet you with it in Canton/Akron tomorrow if you wanted. If it is a matter of when, not if he'll have the money. I just need to know the cash is coming by a certain time point.

The FF, FN, and 7A are so awesomely geared.

I have .71 5th gear I am awaiting the day to put in my AWY/4K close ratio boxes, for a ***in' gasser build in to a mk2 or mk1, respectively.

I know of a Caddy that could use it but it needs floorboards, windshield fixes and a head gasket fix first.  It neither runs or moves.  Not mine either so hope someone in the Midwest can snarf it up from ya.

Too bad you aren't closer.  I am picking up a caddy this week and the guy has a tranny for $300.  Somebody from here shipped me a tranny fedex I think it was.  I want to say it was just under $100 which surprised me but he had a nice box ready for it.

Is this tranny the best mate for a turbo diesel engine and gettting good mileage?

I was happy with the gearing on mine, both with NA and TD engines.

What if the FF came out of a later Cabrio? Or did the later Cabrio come with them?

At any rate, BUMP, please someone have interest.

I have an FF in my '81 Cabriolet ( actually Rabbit Convertible, soon to be diesel powered).  I don't know how long they had FFs in them.

I can ship from my dad's fedex account, I bet it will be less than 90.00. I shipped and AAZ to Colorado just around Denver area for 90.00. It is a lot heavier than the FF.

well let me know what ya could do shipped to my door, i got money and am going to need a tranny for my caddy shell so i assume this will work?

guy tells me mine has all the shift linkage/brackets for a 5 speed so i guess this tranny mates to its stock form and wiring and thats what i want right?

i  haven't actually looked into this yet because i got other stuff on my plate.

personally, i would NOT run 3.94 gears with a diesel...

the ACN style boxes are my favorite factory boxes.. very available too!

i dont mean to sway anyone from buying lucas's tranny tho.. its still a ***in box to have around. its not an ACN, but its damn close!

3.89 gears and yes this is a good trans to put behind a diesel. The ring, 3rd, 4th, and of course 5th are different, but not much.
FWIW the best mileage I ever got with these diesels was in my older 81 rabbit that had the FF. It had a 1.6 with 11mm headbolts too, but I consistantly got 50+.

Yes it will bolt to your stuff fine. Thankfully you have the 5th linkage, as this trans is just the trans, not all the extra involved.

i just got 48+ mpg with a trunk full of campin gear, and non-functional vanes for half the trip.. 600 miles, little over 12 gallons..

AUG TRANS BABY!!!

if i had Lucas's trans, it would do better..

the 3.89/3.94 gears are BETTER for more marginally powered cars.. my car is not marginally powered. lol..
