Title: rover 200 vs 300

Well in my place i am, have both a rover 200, and 300 pump in pieces.... The differance in the adv mech is impressive... 200 is much more like a idi... Where 300 is a piece of over engineered magic... I now understand why franken pumps make so much noise...

Interesting. Looks like a 2-stage advance curve for the 300. Fast initial advance and then slower. The 200 would just be a straight curve.

Yeah actually I was surprised that the lift on my 300TDI pump is only 2.45mm. It is definitely a less extreme cam plate than most of the VW pumps.

"better" is hard to define. All things being equal a cam plate with more lift over a shorter period of time has more power potential. But the more aggressive the cam plate the noisier the engine will be (otherwise Bosch would just make big fast ones). You want the best cam plate for your application. The 300TDI cam plate will definitely provide more that enough fuel for significantly higher than stock fueling levels, though the 200TDI might have more potential.

The different advance systems are almost certainly designed with noise and emissions in mind. It appears to me that the 300TDI pump will be quieter at low RPMs than the 200 pump, probably will have lower NOx emissions too. Who knows what the advance curves actually look like though - this is just speculation on my part. You need someone with a pump dyno to know for sure.

What I'm getting at is the 300TDI pump probably has better manners that the 200 pump. The 200 might have greater power potential based purely on the cam plate.

More agressive is also not good persay.... Breaks pump head springs... Why pump is apart to see such items... Got a aaz pump i need to strip down also... Cause rumors are that best cam plate

Eventually i will have test bench for pumps so i can see what the true differance will be... Cause if i sell rebuild or reseal services... I want stuff i ship to be pretested as public and internet people suck ass if you ever mess up 1 time...

The AAZ camdisk has the most lift I have seen of them all, but does not have a sharp ramp needed for the abrupt injection of the DI injectors.

The AHU camdisk nearly matches the lift of the AAZ but has the proper ramp for the 1.9 injectors.

I have used the stock 300 (which is essentially the exact same as 1.6), an AAZ and an AHU disk in my 300 pump.

ps. Also as a side note, my stock 300 pump did not have the two piece spring like the AAZ's do.

pss. I am thinking my next mod will be the 1.9 AAZ advance piston setup so that I can use the cold start mechanism on the back of the pump for cold starts. Unfortunately doing this, I could not have the cold start cable do an idle bump like on the 1.6/1.9 pumps as the internal throttle lever does not have the provisions for such. I am sure I could make it work.. but who knows.
