Title: 01 Golf wont start
Post by: tindias on July 15, 2009, 12:16:36 am
The strangest thing happended the other day.  I went to the store and my TDI was running just fine.  When I came back it would not start.  I tried many times till the battery died on me, then I got a buddy to tow me home.  When I was trying to start it some white smoke was coming out of the tail pipe when i had it floored, but it will not fire. When I cracked the fuel lines there was no fuel. I am going to throw the battery on the charger, but does anyone have any ideas?

Could my fuel lines have a leak?  I will have to check the filter line to make sure there is diesel in there.  It has about 160k miles on it, I hope its not the IP.

Ok, I will start at the filter and start looking at the lines.  You dont think its the IP do you?  Would hope it wouldnt be leaking, have not seen any diesel pooling up anywhere.

The plot thickens.  My glow plug light is flashing now, car still wont start.  Didnt find any air leaks.  Really dont know what to do now.

If the glow plug light is flashing it's probably throwing a code or two... perhaps get the codes read to see if they offer any clues?

Unfortunately the flashing glow plug light is used to signal many different faults. :P

Updates-  Need a new brake light switch for sure.  Glow plugs come on for 2 secs and then off, if I unplug the coolant sensor they will stay on.  Glow plug fuse and bus all have 13v, glow plugs have .9 ohms. Getting fuel to injectors and stop solenoid is working.  ASV is open and I charged to battery up so it cranks at a good speed.  I am getting lots of white smoke, enough to sting my eyes.  THe car will sputter a bit if I feather the pedal, but wont fire up.  Its about 70 degrees where I am at so I am not sure what is going on.

I am starting to think that could be it.  I inspected the timing belt and there is a portion in the middle of the belt that has been damaged.  I have ordered Vag-com and a new belt, should be here next week.  I really hope it just jumped a tooth and needs to be retimed.

Is the anti shudder valve stuck shut?
