Title: upgrading a 1.5?

so im pretty sure my 79 has a 1.5 right? what can i do to it to get alot of power out of it? will it be easier to start with a 1.6?

i got a 1.5 in my rabbit that i pumped up. i wouldnt suggest starting with one tho. i did because i had no other engine. start with a 1.6 TD..

ya that what i figured. we r either gunna do a 1.6 or my buddy works for s shop and get get a 30k miles tdi for $500. but no wiring harness or anything and our pick and pulls dont have vw diesels since they werent sold in cali for a few years and not alot of people bought them

Smells like a 1.9L M-TDI could be in the works. That would make a lightweight '79 bunny hop alright!

Dropping a tdi into a mk1 with all the electronics would be a hassle, just go m-tdi! I'm glad I don't have a friend offering me a $500 tdi motor, I have enough projects and parts laying around!

well the one thing that has always amazed me with him is his wiring. so if we do go 1.9 tdi he can do the wiring
