Title: Nothing spectacular, but i felt better
Post by: the caveman on June 11, 2010, 09:52:23 pm
So today was my last day at the shop i've been at [ if i never work on an Audi or Porsche again, i'll be happy] and had to rent a cube van to move my tool boxes. Getting off the highway , i heard a big smack , my 6 month old Snap-on roll cab tore the strap and now has a couple of dents. SO that and I was kinda hungover [ i'd say a 6 on the Richter scale],plus dealing with friday afternoon Montreal traffic didn't help my mood. Brought back the rental and am almost home ; driving down some side streets some moron in a Honda is right up my butt. At one point a van has stopped to park, with one car between him and me, when Mr impatient Honda idiot is trying to pass me on the right- on a narrow side street? So once the van parks and the guy in front is gone, i give some revs, drop the clutch [ I even chirped the tires!] and smoked the moron. He stayed well back after that.

Hondas and Acuras, they always seem to want a face full of soot.

That's impressive that you were able to chirp the tires on your truck.

I KNOW! Wasn't really even trying. I will have to try harder at some point to see what it can really do. I guarantee there will be no smoke  from the tires though.

be careful, wheel spin(or wheel hop, which is a better description) on trucks of any size more often than not ends up in lots of drivetrain damage.

one of the end dumps my company has broke all four rear axles doing something similar up a hill on a dirt road.

lol, one time i was drivin a 68 chevy water truck. full, up a big hill. first time i ever drove it loaded up the hill. the first time up i was golden, but the next day i must have had more water, or the truck was having a bad day, but i had to grab a gear about 3/4 up the hill. and the driveline didnt like that too much.. pretzelized it..

Warning: do not try and speed shift truck trannies. the slower shift takes less time to complete in the end.

Generally when you try to shift super fast- and in my case , don't press the clutch fast enough and crunch the gear or mis shift, ending up going slower than just shifting normally

its funny, nothing looks stupider than someone obviously hooning, and then crunching gears :-)

I think it is just another term for what you described to describe to another, thats funny. :P The trick is to be at the point when the clutch needs to be all the way down when you get to the that point with the stick. don't purposefully not put the clutch all the way down, whats it take like another half a millisecond to continue your foot to the floor? lmao
