Title: M-TDi pump breaking the "cold start" blind plug
Post by: Renax on June 02, 2014, 03:46:00 pm
My friend and I built a M-TDi pump using a AAZ pump body, 10mm head and camplate from a AHU/1Z pump.

After some fiddeling we got it working, but the cold start lever quickly started leaking. this was simply fixed with a blind plug from another pump.
Now after 3-4000km(?) the bolt holding the blind plug inplace snapped and it started leaking again.

My theory is that the TDI camplate is so steep that every time its going up its pushing the timing plunger to the end and "smashing" the blind plug. Atleast in full throttle on low RPM's?
Anyone have some inputs or solutions? I can try to upload some pics tomorrow....

Equally possible that the bolt was over tightened when installed and was near failure!

I would guess whatever advance section you used in this pump you should use the caps that go with it. Ex 10mm TDI advance section and the caps on the front and rear of the pump from the same style pump. The length and throw of that piston means a lot. I also concur with vanbc and it could have just been over done :D

Yea, but i could be over torqed, but i doubt it.

The posibillity of the caps is wrong for this exact plunger is big, so if this matters we will look into it and report back. i guess the best here would be to use parts from the the same tdi pump as the camplate is from? would this fit?

yes if the advance piston and caps match it should be better
