I'm doing a 1.9 mtdi ahu into my 86 samurai. I was just looking at it today, and came to the conclusion that if I can have my turbo higher up, like on an aaz motor, it will be out of the way of my motor mount, and alternator. Will an aaz manifold work with the triangle flange of my k03? Also, if it does, won't I possibly have to rotate the body of the turbo in order to keep the drain at the bottom of the body? The plan would be to get a flexible supply line most likely.

I used a 2005 Passat manifold on mine. The turbo is much higher than stock. It points mostly straight out with a slight downwards angle.
Yes, you will need to clock the turbo if you change its angle. Not usually too big a deal on a wastegate turbo.

1.9 AAZ is high, there are two versions
K03 or K14
K14 is early model
Iam going as high as possble for the AHU as its too low on my MK1 rabbit

you could buy or make a spacer and weld up your own manifold if you want a better turbo. 3/8" flange and mandrel tubes would be great start.

I don't need anything special, and I'm needing it ASAP to get my samurai driving again. I bought an aaz manifold.

that is what I am meaning. Get some tubes from your local exhaust shop and some plate from anywhere. You could have the manifold done tonight, faster than shipping and mate it to any turbo you wanted.

Do you have any pictures of the setup?

Yeah, take a look through my build thread in the TDI section, there's quite a few in there.
