Title: Identify IDI pumps by part number?
Post by: trev on December 26, 2009, 02:42:04 pm
Been digging around the net looking for this info. Maybe my Google-fu is weak these days.

Is there a reference page out there that can tell me how to translate a Bosch pump's stamped numbers into relevant info I can use?

For that matter, what differences are there amongst the 4 cylinder VE pumps. Off the top of my head, things I can think of would be the vane pump size (Yes? No?), the plunger pump bore size (pretty certain on that one) and the cam profiles/heights ( or are they all pretty much the same?).

Or are the part numbers even translatable like that?

Not looking to get into the hop-up biz, really looking to see if there is a reference I can use to check if a pump I might pick off a bench might be useful to me, without knowing what it came off of.

Cheers
 Trev

You can decipher that by locating the Bosch p/n on your pump.

Bosch VE P/N Example: 0 460 494 001

Key to Bosch Part Number:

0= Denotes complete product
460= Product class, Distributor pump
4= Identifier for VE Injection pump
9= Plunger Diameter: 8=8mm,9=9mm,0=10mm,1=11mm,2=12mm,3=13mm & 4=14mm
4= Number of Cylinders
001= Application

Isn't one of the digits the direction of rotation?

by this its in the other number...

It turns out the last three digits of the VP37 marry up to another bosch part number that gives more information. The new code breaks down as follows:
VE = VE type pump (VP is still a VE pump)
4 = number of cylinders
/10 = 10mm plunger
E = electronic governor (F=mechanical)
xxxx number = governor controlled RPM (I assume this is pump rpm not engine rpm)
R = clockwise rotation (L = counter clockwise)
xxx-x number = production number

Handy info! Thanks!

Cut from another site, or from a manual somewhere?
