Title: First time against a gasser.
Post by: g-spec on November 06, 2008, 10:56:44 am
So last night im driving in my AAZ MKIII golf to my buddies house to pick up my compressor....when I stop at a red light and there is a young kid with his girlfriend sitting in a hyundai accent.....it seemed to me they were laughint at my car. (Im not surpirised since I bought it for $200, it is a little beat up and 2 colours.) Anyways light turns green I take off driving normal.....then I heard the accent sqealing its tires as it passes me.....well something clicked and all of a sudden im trying to catch this kid.......by the end of first he was one car length in front of me....I shift into second....tires sqeal....start catching up really fast.....by mid third I was one car length in front of him.....and he was stuck in a very thick and black cloud of smoke!!!!!  :D

Its done up alright.....running 30lbs from a T3.
This weekend im working on a 2.5inch downpipe for it along with a side exit exhaust (straight pipe)....not sure ifs its gonna be side exit 100% yet.....but I think so. And then I want to install the srt-4 intercooler I have with but I need to modify the endtanks.

There arent that many mods.....rebuilt head with a little home porting. The motor itself has about 400k kms. I have a stronger clutch as the stock one was slipping at about 17psi. The fuel is turned up a tad, and a 2.5inch intake with a green cone air filter. Im working on exhaust and intercooler in the upcomming days. I also have a self ground boost pin.

What clutch do you use?

Post by: g-spec on November 07, 2008, 06:36:37 pm
Im running a 8v clutch disk and a 16v pressure plate. It seems to be holding great and from what I recall it was a fraction of the origianl clutch. I think the set up cost me just over $100 bucks....maybe 120 or something like that. I would have to dig up my receipts.

Well it looks like exhaust is getting done sooner than I thought.  The stock one fell off today.

Any recommendations on what I should do....I know im doing 2.5 inch downpipe.....but I dont know if I should do side exit cause of the smoke......the car will be covered in it.

IMO go with 3" exhast & downpipe. it's tight but it fits and you'll get better performance and lower EGT's to boot.

My mk3 'state has a side exit...

The back boxes (muffler) were rotton and when I removed them I was left with an exit  pipe spinning in the centre box - I just rotated to point sideways and extended it 8 inches with a bit of stainless.

Ghetto solution and saved me over £100 in replacement exhaust bits.

Mines an AZZ sleeper too except it never wakes up.......except that the engine will stay stock until it becomes a donor for my mk1.

If you were to lower the boost to say around where the T3 is more efficient couldn't you theoretically make more power then you currently are making?

I think you may have a point there. My T3 is presently running around 17psi and seems to love it. The Honduh drivers, however, do not.
As for the Caddy exhaust, I'm all about stealth, so mine looks like this.
