The location and date has been selected. I've set it as far back as possible to allow the most amount of people to get there.
We will be in group camping site #402. It accomodates up to 40 people but we can pack as many in as we can fit. Kids, wifes and husbands are all welcome. Reservations will be prefered (through me) so I know how many people are coming. You do not have to make a reservation but it is prefered. IMPORTANT If you don't prepay and regester with me you will have to pay at the gate and then pay me the difference when you arrive. I am paying the base fee up front, and then there is a per person fee on top of that.
The cost will be $15/person for the whole weekend. Each vehicle will be an additional $2.95/night. Any extra money recieved will be donated to the website. Please don't bring a 40 foot camper unless there are like 10 people sleeping in it, space is somewhat limited.
It's basically a big field surrounded by trees, you drive up and pitch a tent. There is no water (bring your own) but there are portapoties (hurray). Alcohol is allowed, please drink responsibly. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD
Bring your fishing gear, swimming suits, canoes, soccer balls, badminton rackets, crocket gear etc.
Who's invited: Everyone
What: Camping
When: August 22 to Aug 24
Where: Rondeau Provincial park (http://www.ontarioparks.com/english/rond-facilities.html#group) (click it)
Why: stupid question
Please IM me to confirm you are coming and how many people you will be bringing
If you just want to stop in for the day, just tell the front gate when you come in that you are part of the group camping and they will charge you $5/person
Please post any questions you have.
Hope to see you al there

Good spot, I don't live very far away. There's a local fair that weekend in Dresen (1/2 hour north). Parade friday evening (I'm in a big band that will be on a float). Fair includes a demo derby, truck and tractor pulls, horse show, maybe a car show (I'll check) and all the usual small town fair stuff. I won'r be able to camp (Family wedding north of London saturday and another one I'm booked to play at that night in chatham). Another parade at the Leamington tomato festivel sunday and a Habitat for humanity thing in Amhearstberg later in the day I'm playing at too. Leamington has flat track bike racing . Will try to find time to drop in a for a few hours to meet everyone!

gonna be interesting. ive never camped. besides water and food and tent, what else should i buy to bring?

sleeping bag, pillow, cooking utensils, chair, towel, TP, bug spray, rope, tarp etc
If everyone that is coming could RSVP with me that would be awesome. I'd like to have some idea of how many people will be there and I need to fill out a list to hand in to the park.
Check in and out time is 2pm

Lots of beer and coolers filled with ice! A bottle of scotch always makes a nice edition  asprin.
Bug spray and asswipe paper, veeeery important.

I owe Tyler at least 2 six packs for his help with stuff. But can I bring it over the border???????? :)
-
Yeah you can, You have to pay duty if you bring over a certain amount. Get your drinks in the states, it's way cheaper.
-
If you buy your booze at the duty free shop at the border (before you cross) they'll tell you exactly what you're legal to bring across, with and without duty. Don't lie about what you've got when you cross............
BTW, no guns across the border, big trouble!!

Looks like I'm allowed 1 case of beer. Hope you guys like Bud............
Don't need guns. Most of you Canucks have always been nice and pleasant... :)
Just bear with me. I've never camped in almost 44 years...
-
I think you can actually bring 5 cases, but you'll have to pay taxes on the last 4. Some of the guys I work with make the occasional border run for summer supplies............ :D
-
dang Tyler I live right across the pond from you.You can see mentor on that map, chardons 10 mins away!Just think all those 1.9tds soo close.
-
You should come then :)
I'm sure we could hit up a JY, but they are only open saturday until 12 usually.
-
Closest wrecking yard would be dover auto wreckers in chatham, not much in the way of diesel volkswagens. only 1.9 I've seen in there was in a passat wagon, and was already missing injector pump and the whole top end. Probably have better luck in windsor or london, but most of the yards in london are expensive.
-
Unfortunately this is at the same time as Dubs along the Rockies in Colorado.
-
Ok, I'm in.
Another dumb question. why do I need a tarp?
Never camped, so be gentle..... :) :) :)
-
if it rains you set it up like a canopy. It's also nice to put up over your tent so that it doesn't get wet. Plus it's also nice to put a tarp on the ground.

Was thinking that. Looking for a tent, all say they have to be sprayed with water repellent before using. Guess 2 layers is better than none, huh? :)
-
i'll try to be there tyler, will be a good time. i'll let you know for sure closer to the date.
-
Looking forward to it. Leaving the 21st after work. I'll find a motel for a night.
-
Are there any links for Canadian Customs? Besides beer ( imagine that) can I bring over propane?
I'd rather not, form an obvious safety point of view, but I would like to know besides guns what I can and cannot bring.
Thanks again, looking forward to it.
BTW, Tyler, how many people have signed up?
Stay well.
-
Propane shouldn't be a problem (I think?) other than transportation of dangerous goods regulations. Fireworks are probably a no no......
If you have anything worth serious bucks (maybe a guitar?? tools? camping gear?) take it into US customs before you cross, they should be able to give you something that will eliminate problems when you cross back into the states. They might try to claim you bought it in Canada when you cross back into the states if you can't prove (on the spot) where you got it. BTW, if you've got a passport, bring it. YOu won't need it to get into Canada, but America customs is starting to hassle Americans on the way back into the country, especially if you run into someone having a bad day. Don't crack any jokes about bombs........... :D
-
oh god... seems like americans have no sense of humour  (some anyways)
my dad was telling me a story of someone bringing a geological surveying tool that is dragged along the surface. and it just happens to look like a missile. so the guy jokingly said it was. BIG mistake

Well, I'll just bring receipts the hopefully keep them happy. Other than that, I'm cool lol. And stop in Customs BEFORE crossing over and try to get then to document everything brought over for the return trip.
Thanks. See ya in a few weeks.

Am I gonna get dirty looks if I show up in a mk4 TDI, hauling two-stroke gasser jetskis? what about if I bring trev0rbr?

Only if you don't share :D
Some things to keep in mind. Don't bring your own firewood. Apparently there are various bugs that like our lovely Canadian trees. So local wood only.
Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash the whole time. If your dog barks excessivly you will be asked to leave.
Noise must be kept to a reasonable level
Please pay me before arriving at the site if possible. I had to pay a good chunk of money to reserve the site for the weekend and I have to prepay for everyone that is coming. Paypal prefered.
Arrival time is 2pm, and check out is 2pm.
Thanks guys.
PS: Don't do 50 over on the Canadian roads, your vehicle will be siezed on site and you face up to a $10 000 fine. Seriously.
-
they won't extradite us for speeding will they haha. so canadians are more humorous than americans... that excites me

My car couldn't do 50 over if you dropped it out of a C-130.... :)

Just remember, he's talking km/h. Lots of roads are 80km/h limits (50 mph). 50 over is only 130 km/h, and even a 1.6 na can beat that. Lots of roads have lower limits.......... The big 4 lane roads are limited to 100 km/h which is about 62 mph.

Keep in mind that Ontario's mto (ministry of transport) has reciprocity on tickets with most American states. That means that if you get a ticket up here, chances are your local state will know about it, and will collect it for Ontario if you choose not to pay it. Same goes for us when we go south.........

Well aware, thanks much. Will take a bit adjusting to km/h and not mph. Have to teach myself to read the inner numbers on my speedometer. :)
Did drive my F-250 from Winnpeg to Toronto on the TCH. Wished for better mileage, but a beautiful ride nonetheless, and no tickets. :)
Wanna do it next year all the way across to Surrey/Vancouver and make a left towards Washington. Can you camp along the TCH? Looked like you could in many places...
Stay well.

oh haha that still doesn't mean much, if i get a ticket in another state i don't have to pay it then they just put out a warrant for me, and after 2 years that goes away.
-
i have my border crossing uniform ready

Guess we won't be seeing you there Trev0rbr
I used to live on the TCH, pretty sure you can camp on it as long as your vehicle is off the road

statute of limitations thats the words i was looking for when u can't be prosecuted after so many years

That won't work for us up here. If the ticket doesn't get paid, they won't renew driver's license or vehicle plates.

Sounds good, my friend. Leaving for Texas on Tues for a week, have a job related test on the 21st, and heading up north. If I enjoy camping (and can handle it...lol) I will do it along the TCH.
Stay well.
-
I need to know who is coming. Please IM me if you are coming.
-
Tomorrows the day :D
Hope to see you all there
-
No reservation necessary, just show up, pay and camp
There's going to be a diesel chevette there 8)
-
Don't come, because no one will be there.
It has officially been CANCELLED
-
What happened? Not enough committed people?
-
That's correct. Not enough to make it happen. So I'm camping up north with my family instead
-
Tyler,
if you come south west we can go camping in my back yard with all the VW's that would be fun
Duane
-
Sorry it didn't work. Where you going instead, somewhere around the Bay??
-
Bought all this camping stuff and got sick. My apologies Tyler, ya dont know how much i was looking forward to getting up that way. I plan to drive the TCH next year (and camp along the way), and wanted to see if i could make it next year by camping with you guys (and ya could have left ya tools home lol).
Maybe I'll camp locally to see what its like.
Acid reflux is an a$$kicker. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
Stay well...

One day Duane I'll come camping down there.
Yeah I went camping in North Bay, good times.
For everyone that wanted to come but didn't for whatever reason, please let me know that reason so when I plan this for next summer there will be a better turn out. Was it just a bad weekend? Bad location? Too much money? etc
Thanks :)
