I got into a bit of a discussion Where I was told that it was impossible to tune an aaz easily to have the same torque and HP as A tdi motor. What do you guys think?
-
Thats what I thought. He wants dyno charts to prove it.

T3 turbo AAZ with rover 220TD boost pin,NO OTHER MODS 75 to 112 easy

Sweet, I just got a Rover 220 boost pin :) It's only the 70hp 1.9 AAZ engine in my car tho...
-
my AAZ makes a VR6 work to keep up with me! i only have a 1.6 boost pin in the pump!

We dont have those here in the states.
-
Just did the boost pin on my Passat. Wheee! In fact, I think I'll start a new thread about it.

On standard boost?
-
11 psi at max output on a vdo boost gauge

What gear are you in for the dyno graph?
-
wow, i really gotta get mine on a dyno!....
-
If tuned an AAZ can far surpass the HP and and torque of any of the stock 4-cyl TDI engines.
Andrew
i don't disagree, but the new 125kW 2.0TDI in the GT Sport is a formidable machine - the one i drove broke traction in 2nd gear in perfectly dry conditions, no probs... and that was on the nice sticky continental rubber, 225 section... those baby's generally just haul!

DFW gearbox in 3rd gear

I have an AAZ with a ported head, a Giles pump and a T3 turbo. At 9 psi, I can easily take a TDI,and the engine is built to handle 30 psi.

!
Is it possible to beat a good running VR6 (170hp) ??
or even a golf G60 (160+ hp) ??
with an AAZ with these mods: 3" dp, 1.6 boost pin. T3 Turbo 20 psi, head studs fuel and pump mods....you know the usual.
IF so you would have to run under 7 sec to 60 mph.
anyone with a modded AAZ runs under 7 secs??
-
Theres a local here with an AAZ in a Rocco. The first time ever on a drag strip he turned 14.5.
-
my AAZ has T3, custom boost pin and 11mm pump piston, de goved, running just over 30psi it spins in 1st 2nd and 3rd in the dry and 4th and 5th in the wet, infact i can do a standing burn out in 5th gear with a little water down. if i get the gear change right i can pull away from my mates 200bhp VR6 mk2 golf 8)
no one can knock the AAZ, it turned my gear box into mince meat thow and now im running 6speed
btw im selling it if anyone is intrested

Wow, that sounds good man.
I can't wait to get mine on the road and see what she does!
My golf G60 is very fast but can never beat a 200hp VR6!
Hopefully my 1.9 diesel will be faster :D I can't wait

Rich, what was the 11mm piston from? Did you swap the whole pump head and cam plate?
-
im sure it wud do betta if i had more traction and an intercooler, it just spins up wen the boost kicks in.
the pump piston and head is off an AFN i believe, you must keep the AAZ cam plate as the TDI cam plate doesnt work in IDI, i found out the hard way  , i had to get the pump piston machined a little to fit the cam plate, changed my gov spring for a load of washers, also using the pump top off a 1.6TD and took an angle grinder to my boost pin. short 2.5" exhaust straight through with no boxes, bleed valve, stock injectors and a big rad with twin speed big fans to keep it cool
it takes a lot of setting up, but wen you find that sweet spot wen air and fuel are perfect you will be laughing past cars you never thort you would, because that much torque in an old VW that weighs half the amount of these new cars, you will find urself racing anything under 25 grand 8)

I was for a drive in the Rocco today and it is retarded! We left 3 strips, 2 with the tires and one from the exhaust.. all he is running for exhaust is the downpipe! What a drive though, spins through 3rd easy on the dry pavement.

I hear it's radical, but haven't been for a drive yet.

My old GTD caddy ran a similar setup but with standard pump piston and was a fat slab of fun. I'm building a mk1 driver with a tweaked AAZ - I've just scored a 11mm TDI pump, can you enlighten me on what machining was required and what other probs may arise on fitting this to the AAZ pump.
Cheers!

regcheeseman,
is the tdi pump you have from a 1z engine?
Because i also have one of those and would also like to know what exactly i need to use from this to put in my idi pump.
pictures would be nice!
