Suggestions for the above post welcomed, BTW!!   Like the FAQ I'll add 'em in and delete the originating post to keep things neat.

Just figured we needed a bit of a guide for the new folks to help get them up to speed on the content and culture here... our ranks are growing !!

Tyler's comprehensive post in here which links to a series of very useful threads is INVALUABLE.
a similar thread that covered more every day things would also be useful on the wide scale.

have threads linked in there that deal with ... wiring problems or what have you.
am i making sense?
not just "1.9/1.6 builds"
but sort of a more comprehensive directory sort of deal. it would be much more resourceful than sifting through heaps of threads that have the words "light turn solid blinker signal" in them.
If there is a thread that's focused and a common problem is resolved - copy pasta (yes pasta) the link into the thread in the FAQ that has a comprehensive list of general issues & documented fixes in some sort of order/organization

you could have a ...
"fuse & relay" section
"turn signal" section
"gauge cluster"
"upholstery"
"sound system" (if we wanted)
"transmission"

it wouldn't be for upgrades per say but more along the lines of ... "this is how this person fixed this common problem, here it is documented clearly for you to follow if you're experiencing the same problem"
"bumpers"

kind of like an online bentley but it would be written by the people on the forum for the people on the forum
its really late and im reeally tired. Vince, feel free to just delete and disregard this post if it doesn't make any sense.

Also, There are several threads in the FAQ that probably could be deleted all together. We could probably save a page or 2 in the FAQ without them. Maybe it is me, but I went through the 7 pages and that is what I thought. Great forum right now though just not to complain without a little praise. You mods do a great job.

Vince:  I, for one, REALLY appreciate your diligence on this issue.  There is no room in this world for porn or other disgusting things to be posted to this forum.

There are way too many 'p/c' correct forums out there for the 'trash mongers' ... so use them instead of a vehicle forum.  I come here for education regarding my rabbit; as do 99.9999% of the rest of the members.  If I want trash, I can watch late nite TV ... or go to the movie theater.

If you don't care for the control ... then LEAVE; as we used to ... LONG AGO ... say in America ... "America, Love it or Leave!"  Same thing goes for Canada ... "Love it or Leave!"

Keep up the policing Vince ... as best you can!!!

Having said this, it would be nice if you had the authority to warn once ... and if repeated, then blackball and block the offender from ever posting again .... along with deleting the post he/she posted.

Just my 2 cents worth........

To expand on this, it's be nice if for at least one forum having to do with the rabbit ... and this one would be a good candidate ... if there was also a section having to do with electrical wiring.  Almost each post I have ever made reqarding a problem, or clarification needed, I seem to get a recommendation to 'get a Bentley' ... which I have, along with the rest of the books.

But some of us are not 'gurus' ... and need a bit more information.  I spent 4 years as an electronics technican in the Navy, and also several years as an electrican ... but to understand the Bentley is beyond my capacity.  Chalk it up to being a logger head, OK ... but I see MANY other posters who seemingly have the same problem.  Only in one case, and that happened to be from a Russian site, have I ever come across a normal type of wiring schematic ... for the rabbit.

Odd ... since other vehicle books have the standard one to read.

So, for what it's worth, if there were a electrical where dummies could get useful information and responses, instead of being interpretated as being 'stupid' ... in some cases ... it'd be GREAT!

FWIW.... IMO.....

Bumping this post to remind folks of the  "rules of the road" on this forum.

Specifically, a reminder that at all times posts need to be polite, respectful, and something you'd happily show your mom/significant other/children.  If your post can past that test you're gold !!

This is a family forum and a fantastic resource...let's keep it that way.   ;-)

Yea people actually answer questions. Even if its been asked before we try and politely guide them to a thread.
I mentioned it somewhere else, but maybe for some threads like for example the governor mod, make it a sticky or lock it or something? And start another discussion thread about it.
Maybe that way its just the tech info itself and won't get too confusing?

Here's some random thoughts, for what they're worth,  on how to get the most out of this fantastic resource:

  • Start by reading the   FAQ  (http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=16687).  It really is the questions we frequently see, at least 80% of the time.  It’s also the questions we’re all pretty tired of discussing again and again and again!
  • No really, read the   FAQ  (http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=16687)!

I am a newb and want to read the FAQ but that link doesn't work.  :-\

Edit: Well, duh! Just found it.
All I had to do was open my eyes a little.
Translation: I NEED SLEEP

We need to look at some of these rules again. We are trying to not become as some other forums on the internet.

These would be a great place to start. If more is needed please post up and I will continue as Vince did with the suggestions.

•Profanity is a big no-no, as is any language or conversation that is disrespectful to race, creed, religion, etc.  This is an inclusive forum for all... some of us even share this stuff with our sons and daughters.  If the conversation would make your kids, significant others, or parents uncomfortable you've probably gone too far.
•Remember that we’re all amateurs here, and no one has a monopoly on the truth.
•If you have an opinion, state it as such.  If you’re not sure… don’t pretend that you are.  If you have nothing new to add to a thread, then consider not adding anything!
•Take a deep breath and reflect before submitting a grumpy post. Conversations will go best if everyone is feeling their best.
•Remember that this is the Internet… no one can see your car, your engine, or the expression on your face.  Describe things as carefully as you can, and remember to be clear if you’re kidding or serious.
•Like most other areas in life the Golden Rule is a great yardstick: treat others the way you want to be treated, and life will be grand!
