Title: 5spd relay shaft measurement?
Post by: wolf_walker on April 21, 2014, 10:58:15 pm
Anyone have one of these handy? I need the offset and length of the flat part.

The 11mm hole is an estimate, since the plastic grommet is still installed.

Wonder why my aftermarket one I dug up is a 47mm offset?  Length matches at 132 after bending my stock one to match.  It's a 35 degree angle, figured that wasn't coincidence.

Hmmm... the one in your picture (in the vise) looks like a welded assembly. The one I measured (1991 ECO Jetta) is fastened to the vertical shaft by the rectangular hole and a nut.

That may well be it, this one is way old, hell it could be from a 4spd originally for all I remember.
I had a chrome aftermarket short shifter I dug up and bent it to match, guess I'll try it and see.
It actually shifted fine like it was so there must be some margin for error.  I suspect the goal is
to have that arm that attaches to it level with the ground when installed.
