Title: 1997 Jetta gas to diesel Electrical issue
Post by: Dean Erickson on November 02, 2014, 07:06:17 pm
I bought a 1997 Gas Jetta with a blown 2.0 gas engine. I have changed to a rebuilt 1.6 diesel and am have some electrical issues with the dash. I ran the hot wire from the coil to the injection pump to turn on and off. I am using a voltage regulator to run the glow plugs. The problem I am having is the speedo, gas gauge and temp gauge are not working. The fuses are all ok, all other lights blinkers and horn are working. When the key is off the miles and the clock come on. When the key is on the miles and clock turn off. Somthing is backwards messed up. Any ideas?

I think your glow plug wiring is the problem! There should not be any interactions between the glow plugs and the voltage regulator.

Sorry I meant the glow plugs are hooked up to a starter relay from a riding mower. I have a push button running it.

On the 2.0 is the speedo driven by a cable or electronically?

All the Mk3 cars have electronic speedos.
