Title: Shimmy shake and junk motor mounts
Post by: srgtlord on September 11, 2017, 10:43:03 pm
So as a preventative measure I installed new motor mounts in my car. What showed up from germanautoparts.com were a set of meyle motor mounts with 2 being hydraulic. After only 2 short weeks The front mount is shot and the passenger side rubber mount is most likely gone as well. I just ordered a rein solid mount from a different vendor to get me through the next week and hopefully through the next year.

Are the meyle mounts known to be junk or did I just get a batch of mounts that were sitting on the shelf for too long? Is Rein any better? Should I just order the genuine VW mounts next time?

Myele parts are mostly pretty poor unfortunately. Rein is ok... VW OEM is definitely better.

So I just bought a genuine vw rear passenger mount. What is your opinions on putting a polyurethane insert in the mount?

Entirely depends on your tolerance for vibration at idle. Going in to the winter months I'd be pretty hesitant to put anything stiffer than stock unless I had a significantly hopped up engine. Cold diesels shake bad!

Im not too worried about a little bit more vibration. The rein front mount self destructed after almost a month. I think the poly insert for the passenger side mount is going in. I'm tired of replacing the same parts over and over and over again.  I'll order the genuine vw solid front mount and the genuine vw rear tranny mount.

Well turns out the Meyle passenger mount was made out of inferior rubber. The rubber was too soft and the shape of the mount had less rubber than the genuine vw mount. I didn't keep the poly insert in....I don't like riding in a jackhammer. All is well for now. When the genuine vw front rubber mount arrives I'll install it and pray I won't be touching it again lol
