will a gearbox from a VW syncro system bolt up to a TDI engine? i don't know much about the newer engines.. but i've seen a couple cars with mkIV engines, and syncro drivetrains, i wonder if its all bolt up? very doubtful..

SyncroNorm had a Passat G60 Syncro that he had converted to TDI :)
I still wish I had bought it ....
All VW 4-cylinder transmission are bolt-on to any VW 4-cylinder engine.
You only need the right clutch/flywheel combinison

The syncro gearbox from the G60 Passat Syncro is an 02C.
The 02C is a sister gearbox to the 02A.
The R&P and gearset from an 02A gearbox are a direct fit
into an 02C case. It's fairly easy easy to do the parts swap.
I currently have an 02C case with a 3.16 final and TDI gears sitting on my engine stand.
Regarding the case fitting, general rules of thumb for VW:
1a. all 4 cylinder trannies fit to all 4 cylinder engines
(a 1974 020 4spd will bolt on to a 2004 1.8T)
1b. the VR6 bellhousings don't bolt up to the 4 cylinder engines
(you can't bolt an 020 gearbox up to a VR6)
2. use the clutch that goes with the transmission
(For 02A gearbox use 02A clutch. For 020 gearbox, use 020 clutch)

i have an engineless passat syncro in my shop. putting the engine into a dude's A1 jetta.
A friend is buying the chassis to install the syncro system into an A2 jetta with a supercharged 2L 16v. too bad!
