Title: Diesel GTG planning
Post by: macka on January 07, 2010, 09:32:03 pm
I was thinking that having a diesel gtg would be do able in the eastern region. I know that Waterford hills MI has a good track to meet at, any suggestions to help get the ball rolling would be appreciated. I can think of a venue or 2 in Montreal and one in Kingston ON. I'd like to be at either Waterford or in Kingston as they have the capacity to hold a lot of people. The hotels are also good in that area.

Have you had GTGs in Kingston??   I live in Alexandria Bay NY about 40min away.  My dad and I would love to come to them, he has a 1.6td porsche 356 and i should have my sciroccoTD done.    so I guess keep us posted!

I think I can do Kingston, its getting a venue booked, and advertising on the vortex, so we can get as many bodies out to it. I hope the upstate NY and PA guys can show up as well as some of the New Englanders (as long as they can  say toilet and not terlet ;) we'll let them in).

Hmm 7.5 hours in a Rabbit..   I think I could do that..   That is after I have an engine that I'm not afraid of driving more than 50 miles from home...

I think you "crack" engine has proved itself to be reliable enough :P

It's only 2 hours for me, I can probably do that

so, how do you feel about that? you have an engine that survived a crack overdose, and a pretty bad one at that.

The only engine that I owned that had "crack" issues overdosed and killed herself. She's probably been turned into pots and pans by now.

I though I may have been heading for major failure again last night..  Yet again it still seems to be living on... It managed another 60 miles with the aid of some Gorilla tape...  Read all about it in the IDI section...  :-*

the SoG could be talked into this. swap meet? it'll have to be... hmmm, 2nd or 4th weekend of a month before april, or after may for me to make it... I'm prolly gonna be stuck at work 7/12s from the middle of march til june 1st damn

I'm the only club member with a passport, but if it's in the states, I might be able to talk some folks into comin out and meetin the vwdiesel.net crowd

sorry to thread jack, but would there be much interest for a bbq G2G at my place this summer? Our club is having funding issues, and I figured it'd be a good way to get our mission out there, and maybe raise a few bucks. We might have a DJ, or a local band, food, frolicking, maybe a tinkering party. local bar has a mechanical bull if people want to challenge diablo to an 8 second duel ;-)

Are your's just grass fed, or do you put some of those mineral enhanced salt licks out for them?? Mine seem to be reproducing nicely on a steady diet of grass...  ;D

Make that 2 with a passport.

Went to England and Ireland 3 1/2 years ago.

PA could be almost like a center from all directions.

Sounds like fun.  Count me in.

Stay safe, stay warm.. Jimmy.

I fired an email of to the city of Kingston about using a park, nothing yet. On another note I got in contact with the McDonalds by the army base, and they are interested in having us and sponsoring the event. The boys from the base workshop are also going to want to come play too. Soo all in all looking good.

On another note if your State has the new enhanced drivers license for border crossing, its cheaper then a passport.

My exhaust smells better than a Big Mac tastes now days....

I'll have to look and see if PA has some variety of enhanced driver license..  Of course if I suck it up and decide the fly across the pond I'll need the passport anyhow...  I really wish they'd get that bridge built......

I'm not at all good at planning anything more involved than "i want to drive to town and get fast food" but I would like to have a fundraiser for our lil clatterbox endurance racer.

Few nice drives around here, could do a BBQ here, with camping and whatnot. any interest in an ~100 mile cruise?

how many people would be interested in a campout/g2g in 16365. northern corner of allegheny national forest in PA. less than 20 cars and I can guarantee free camping. but it's camping, no running water, no 'lectricity, maybe not even cell service.

it's a few miles from the allegheny reservoir, if there is serious interest, I'll talk to the owner of the marina, see if we can do a lil soot and shine in the parking lot.  if not, there are a few other places I can think to host it. I warn you though, I'm not good at throwing a party.
