Air con onto Mk2 GTD (SB)
« on: August 02, 2007, 06:35:24 pm »
Ok in the Uk air con was never offered even as an option on the 1.6 TD mk2 golfs. I want to know what i need and if anyone in the USA or Canada has air con on an SB intercooled MK2?

But i'm going through upgrading everything on the car - here is what is planned:-

256mm discs upfront along with a GTi rear axle with rear discs - but i'm also pulling the ABS kit off a Seat Toledo GT MK1 (basically a mk2 golf underneith) it all plugs in straight into the fuse box and the sensors are mounted into the calipers of the Toldeo (they run the exact same front struts as a mk2 golf)

Power steering rack

Coilovers

8x15 et 25 Schmidt Modern Lines with 195/45/15's

full retrim in Grey nappa leather

New big bumpers and full g60 spec kit all smoother of their texture and painted metallic black and colour coded sections to stop them fading and keep thing smooth

mk3 style golf door handles (chinese style)

Single lamp OEM grill with Montana Green strip - eyebrow spoiler

HID's

electric sunroof

new black GTi headling and c-pillar sections

full body restoration - inc new drivers side wing and full glass out respray in Montana Green

Under the bonnet - parts polished and painted either black or Montana green.

I've just got a new job and i'll be making £10,000 more than i make at the moment! So rather than buy a new car with no character I thought i'd update my golf and keep it for another 5-10 years instead!

It could be just fine for you about the air con. Since you are not in UK, so you could be just fine for that. Otherwise, you have to try other if you are willing to.

As far as I know, the U.S. (and Canada) didn't get any GTDs and no intercooled MK2s, an just n/a diesel and turbo-diesel (which was only available on the Jetta IIRC) and n/a gasoline engines... So anyone that has an intercooled diesel MK2 Golf (such as my car) were homebuilt customs or were brought over from Europe.

I also believe (but do your own research on this) that the brackets, pulleys, a/c pump and alternator from the gasoline engines will swap right over to the diesel and allow you to install a/c.

I do not know if the presence of the intercooler and it's piping will interfere with this or if the RHD dashboard will present a problem for the installation of a/c components.

I am also laughing a bit  ;D and rolling my eyes a little  ::) at your need for a/c in Scotland of all places whereas I don't have air con in my home or vehicles and it is going to be over 100 F (I think thats like 40 C) in a couple months.

a big hello from pakistan.

I have a 1986 mk2 golf, originally NA 1.6D. My car had an AC from factory.

I recently sourced a GTD engine, code SB, along with intercooler and all the plumbing. And the AC pipe going from compressor to the evaporator inside the dash and the one going from compressor to condenser in the front, both will require rerouting if you want the original IC to fit.

OR you can do what i did and go FMIC.... ;D

One thing you should ensure is the BIG TD radiator, and the fast turbo fan. I changed fan shroud and am now running a AAZ twin fan setup. shroud had to be cut a bit, but fits like it belongs..... 8)

Cheers
