1.6TD-F or 1.6TD-FJR Look inside

1.6TD-F = 1.6 Turbo Diesel Franken
1.6TD-FJR = 1.6 Turbo Diesel Franken Junior  :)

I was just talking to Dave At Pass. about the franken build I was doing.  Since 1.9idi heads are getting rare these days I was asking about what I would lose by just going with the 1.6 head.  Flow and higher compression.  The idea came up that since 1.6 pre-cups are not around anymore that the head could be fitted with 1.9 pre-cups.  These are still available.  You would end up with the lower CR benefit of the 1.9 head allowing for more fuel and boost.  The flow is another thing.  Looks like the 1.9 still wins here hands down.  Could you go to a smaller valve stem(thinner) on the 1.6? What is the stock dia. ?  Anyone know if there is one out there that will work?  If you could swap in a different stem that is 1mm dia. smaller, you just increased flow.
So perhaps if a 1.9 head is not available to some people you could opt for the Franken Jr.

Ideas?  Collective brainstorm?

Jim

you might be able to use 7mm stems off of a later 97 only i believe aaz.  the difference in flow on an aaz is really apparent when you have the 2 heads side by side though, i'll have to get a picture of mine

you can always throw in a 1.9 pre cup 1.9 valves port and polish the head and unshroud the valves and you would have a pretty decent cylinder head.

Will the 1.9 valves fit?
