TDI engine 2001 in B4 1997 TDI
« on: September 15, 2007, 01:19:22 am »
I have a Passat 1997 TDI and the engine is gone because using to much oil, i have a TDI engine 2001 and i like to know if i can use the block of my 2001 to replace the 1997...?

somebody told me that i just have to swap some wiring on the the fuel pump to use the entire 2001 engine and put it like that in the passat 1997, is that right?

Any other idea for me :?:

I really need help on this case, because i have to do something really soon

Thanks for your answer!!!

Well the engine blocks are different between the two. The 1997 is probably an AHU which is the original type with external water pump. The 2001 is likely an ALH which is the later type block with internal water pump.

I would be inclined to swap the whole engine over, although you will need to also swap the rear engine mount from the 97 to the 01. This mount will need modification to clear the turbo but it's easy enough to do. Lmk if you need a pic.

As for wiring I believe the 97 has a 9-pin plug on the pump and the 01 has 10. They have the same connections though, so if you can follow the wiring diagrams you can swap the 10-pin 01 plug on to the 9-pin 97 harness.

Hopefully I will be corrected if I got any of this the wrong way round!    Hope that helps tho!
