Hello all
I am new to the board and have specific questions about what help power wise is available for a 1981 Rabbit Pickup (why is it sometimes refered to as a Caddy"?) I found a thread in the archives that talks about dynamic injector pump timing and longer or more throttle arm throw, and a gentleman named Giles that works some kind of magic with the pump itself. Soo. How specifically do you advance the injector Pump? I think this truck has the original engine. Are there any physical differences that would point to a 1.6? thanks I'll be quiet now! :wink:

I'll beat the crowd and be the first one to say the best way to wake up an old 1.5L is to swap it for a TD.
Other than that, it'll respond to pump mods readily. One could conceivably install a TD pump and reference it's LDA boost enriching device to a nitrous fogger. Spray on, extra fuel added, more power. Would be great for passing or hill climbing. Naturally, the best exhaust possible would do nothing but help.

With all that bed space, you could bolt in a nice Pratt & Whitney JT15D jet engine for a little extra boost. It'd run on diesel, and you could bleed air out of the compressor case to turbocharge the rattlebox up front!

I Like It! Just need a drop tank trailer to feed the Beast! I agree with the TD upgrade and eventually will go that route. This truck only has 75,000 original miles on it and runs really great down hill with a tailwind. Getting between 45 and 49 MPG I think. I think I have the missing tooth on the speedo problem. Sometimes it drops 5mph without any change in speed over the ground. Can Some one tell me why the rabbit pickup is AKA Caddy? Thanks
