TDI power output differences

Did those red letter indications come on PD's only or did that apply to pre-PD (2003 and older?) What changes did they make to the motor to up the hp?

I'm looking at aftermarket chips for the 2000 TDI I might buy tomorrow, looks like most chips will boost it from 90hp to 115hp. Thats a good start, but it still doesnt compare to the stock 150hp of the all-red TDI badged cars.

if you want 150 hp, you need to do a little more than just chipping your car.

you need to open the exhaust up to make it free flowing, and get an EGT thermocouple & gauge so you know what temps you're at.

you might also need a bigger turbo... bigger injector nozzles (see smog)

the above mentioned is to make the 150 hp reliable... you probably could push the limits of your vehicle to make 150 hp, but end up blowing something while trying to smoke that ricer...

I think I read somewhere that the 150hp tdi had an intercooler too. I'll start with the chip see where that leads me

Your 90hp TDI also has an intercooler.  The PD150 is a completely different engine.  Still 1.9 liters, but different rods, pistons, head, and PD injection rather than VE-pump injection.  Really not comparable.

A chip and injectors, with downpipe and exhaust will get you darn close or even more than 150 hp no problem.
