I can't find anything on vacuum pumps in my Bentley. Is it the little barrel-shaped thing on the front of the engine in front of cylinder 4? Is it driven by the intermediate shaft?
What does it power, just the brake booster and cruise control system?
Yup... diesels have no throttle plate so no vacuum... have to have a pump to drive the brake booster and cruise control.

And the A/C vent flappers, if so equipped.
The Mk1 Bentley does address the diaphragm-style vacuum pump, but I see not mention of the vane-style pump in the Mk2 Bentley. Should be maintenance free until it needs to be replaced, I am not aware of a rebuild kit for the vanes.

Yes, there is a gear in the int shaft that turns the vacuum pump, and a slot in the bottom of the pump shaft turns the oil pump. Since the int shaft turns the opposite way from the gasser, the gears are cut the other way and it is not compatible with a gasser int shaft.
