Entirely possible. Like I said I didn't "think" the 0.71 gears were used in a diesel. Is it the original tranny?

thats the thing, just got the car a couple years ago, looks like a bit of work went into it (rebuilt engine, extensive bodywork that i didnt see when i bought it) so probably not

I have an 84 four door Jetta GL TD that shows a 7A transmission code on the sticker in the trunk...............
