so i went to the dragstrip today!
« on: May 16, 2007, 10:32:37 pm »
great fun, and i didnt break anything! i was really amazed on how my TD jetta did, with over 300,000 miles, i was expecting around a 21-23 sec. 1/4 mile, on my first run with stock fueling and blow off blocked, wastegate turend in, around 15-18 psi -keep in mind i havnt been to the strip in 2 years, and never raced my diesel before, i ran a 19.594 @68.14 mph, pretty slow, but better than i was expecting, next run with stock fuel again was a little better with a 18.678 @69.68 mph, then i turned up the LDA 2 turns and main fueling 1 turn and ran a 18.383 @71.17 mph, not a big difference, but i even beat the civic i was racing, good feeling! then again i ran even better with a 17.674 @73.04 and beat a new toyota carolla S, but my best run was my last- 0.09 R/T and a 17.591 @73.53, really impressed by that one with boost hitting 25 psi, first for going that high, and since i dont have my egt hooked up yet, i decided to call it a night before i broke anything, but it was cool to hear the ppl cheer when i launched and a cloud of black soot covered everything behind me, i really thought this car felt a lot slower, its accually 1 sec. faster than my old mk2 jetta w/ a 8v gasser and 5 speed close ratio gti tranny, cant wait to see what it will do w/ the new motor, giles pump, pass. perf. downpipe, GTD nozzles, lots of port work and a intercooler which i will be starting on soon, once i sell my audi on ebay!

17.5 isn't bad, i did a gteched 16.2 or 16.3 with my jetta, on 25 psi no intercooler.  just increased fueling, 2 1/4 tt exhaust and a cone filter instead of the air box.  you should be able to do better... but your engine has alot of miles, mine still has under 100,000.  be careful with out the egt gauge and with out an intercooler, these motors are very suseptible to heat.

Cool.  Yeah, Summit did buy it.  I've been up there for the NOPI nationals the last two years- Hopefully this year I can actually bring a car.  :P  It's a really nice track.  Big- lots of space.  I also like how open the pit area is, you can really get a good look at the racecars.  I have not been racing in nearly 4 years and I'm getting the itch again.  :P  I plan on terrorizing the local 1/8th mile track here in town with my gasser 81 Scirocco at least once this summer.  I beat a motorcycle with it the other day going from stoplight to stoplight.
